Any enthusiasm I might have for getting Bailey Smith now is tempered by the massive price we are likely to pay for him.

We don't need him as much as we need Duursma/Watson/Caddy, and we are likely to have more leverage next season.

Given the dogs are willing to hand over 10, 17, and F1 for pick 4 - what would they want for Smith?

3 and F2 for 10, 17, and Smith?

They save their F1 and gain our F2. Values him as worth a F1 and F2.

10, 17, and 29 for 4.

3, F2, and 29 out - 4, and Smith in. Deal would get complex.

I can’t see how any hawthorn nuffy during the curse and 3peat years would ever want to play for geelong.

Yes footy is a career and a business but there are some moral lines you don’t cross.

Because players don’t think like this once they are professionals. Gunston was a mad Bomber when growing up, in the line in the sand years. His family were Bombers through and through but he still requested a trade to us from Adelaide.

Isaac Smith played during the period you just mentioned and went to Geelong as a FA.

We dont need more wings or small/mid sized defenders.

We need small/mid sized goal kickers, and a key forward and a key defender.

We seem to be attached to a lot of players who are in the 1st basket not the 2nd.
We finished 16th we must still bring in talent over positional need. Especially if you get talent cheaply. Trading out excess or in need is a year or 2 away.

Smith is an absolute gun and would instantly improve any side. Anyone suggesting otherwise is having a laugh and cannot be taken seriously. He's not even 23 yet either.

Won't happen though. Hopefully next year we position ourselves to have a good crack.
Can play good football no doubt. Absolute gun is stretching things. Great speed tough break the lines and damaging for sure, but poor disposal suspect defensive traits and issues off field would make me very wary. I wouldn’t be parting with the capital it would require and especially not our first this year. Absolutely reckless. But I guess I’m having a laugh and shouldn’t be taken seriously, right. Usually like your posts mate, not your finest hour.
Contend with different ideas with better ideas not by belittling your opponent. Unless you are auditioning to be a moderator…😂😂😂😂

If we keep our pick 3 and only use our F1st and change then I am comfortable with this. It provides other impetus to trade out other players.

How many of the names mentioned to date are game winners ?
They don’t need to be that’s the point. They just need to be better than who they replace that’s what bringing in talent means. So you increase the total pool of talent when you are down the bottom. In a few years when we are rising we can reassess trade out where we are stocked and cherry pick for need. As an example if at our first pick we could choose McKercher Watson or Duursma I believe you take either of the last 2 and I pick McKercher as he is the best talent IMO

As much as we have missed target players to date, surely, a major attraction for Smith has to be Sam Mitchell. He is an all-time great midfielder and has turned our midfield into one of the best in the league. Smith would only become a better player at Hawthorn. And maybe one of the best in the league. I would think this would be a big lure for him.

Two years ago Smith was tracking the same if not better than Walsh, Butters and Rozee. His 2021 finals series was amazing. He’s had two down years since so he’s not at their level now. But he’s not lacking in similar ability. I’d trade our F1 and something extra (not pick 3) for him. He’s a very good player with ability to be a superstar if he puts it back together

Yes we are midfield heavy but no side without an excellent midfield can compete. It is by far the most important part of the ground and Smith is different to any of our current mids.
