It will be small consolation for missing out on Esava McKay and Liam Henry.B Smith still in play. A bit to play out here.

Two years ago Smith was tracking the same if not better than Walsh, Butters and Rozee. His 2021 finals series was amazing. He’s had two down years since so he’s not at their level now. But he’s not lacking in similar ability. I’d trade our F1 and something extra (not pick 3) for him. He’s a very good player with ability to be a superstar if he puts it back together
Yes we are midfield heavy but no side without an excellent midfield can compete. It is by far the most important part of the ground and Smith is different to any of our current mids.
Why not? F1 + 30 is better than anything else they'll get noting pick upgrades this year are less enticing than future picks given they can make up the points required fairly easily with Chol and Hollands leaving. Not going to happen.
No current season stats available
He’s an attacking player, has been played off HBF and looked good as HFF earlier in his career. Very assured type of player, has confidence and uses the ball pretty well. Definitely has potential to improve beyond where he is now. Quick too.Could play Small/Pressure Forward or he's not that kinda player?
It’s not.Why not? F1 + 30 is better than anything else they'll get
They don’t need to be that’s the point. They just need to be better than who they replace that’s what bringing in talent means. So you increase the total pool of talent when you are down the bottom. In a few years when we are rising we can reassess trade out where we are stocked and cherry pick for need. As an example if at our first pick we could choose McKercher Watson or Duursma I believe you take either of the last 2 and I pick McKercher as he is the best talent IMO
Supposedly we have heaps of cap space. We can walk him straight back in.No - Richmond will just get him to put a front loaded price on his contract to get him. Also Norf have Larkey so have little need for Kosi. The PSD is a meaningless threat. It’ll get done for a reasonable price in the trade period.
That’s fair and that’s the challenge for him and any club he goes to. You’re right that some players do not go on with it and we have seen that with players we have recruited hoping they would recapture early career promise. Others like Dusty and Petracca had some years early in their career that did not match their ability and turned it around to become champions. It’s not without risk but then neither is any draft pick. Smith’s ceiling is very highI get that he was "great" 2 years ago argument but there has been 100's of players who have put together a few good years then just fallen away (Chad Wingard anyone?)
This does not mean Baz will reach these levels again, if we are serious about chasing him we need to be willing to pay what his output was over the last 2 years as this is more then likely his form if he comes over to us
He is simply not worth a F1 if we are going to finish bottom 4 next year, would you trade pick 3 for him this year? Same same
Can play good football no doubt. Absolute gun is stretching things. Great speed tough break the lines and damaging for sure, but poor disposal suspect defensive traits and issues off field would make me very wary. I wouldn’t be parting with the capital it would require and especially not our first this year. Absolutely reckless. But I guess I’m having a laugh and shouldn’t be taken seriously, right. Usually like your posts mate, not your finest hour.
Contend with different ideas with better ideas not by belittling your opponent. Unless you are auditioning to be a moderator…
Would you swap our F1 + 30 for picks 10 + 17, which will likely end up being picks ~13 + ~20?It’s not.
They’ll get two first from the Dogs and then be able to do whatever they want with them.
Supposedly we have heaps of cap space. We can walk him straight back in.
You seem to have missed what the Suns are trying to do.Would you swap our F1 + 30 for picks 10 + 17, which will likely end up being picks ~13 + ~20?
That’s not a thing. Geelong make it difficult for players to leave all the time and land more recruits than any other club. Not saying we will force him to PSD but this stuff about attracting future players isn’t real. And piss off a player who wants to go elsewhere? That’ll definitely make it easier to attract players in future years.
Just got to remember the cost. The goal should be to have as many players as we can that can play midfield. These players are capable of fitting in other parts of the ground. Interchangeable. We won premierships with players like Burgoyne and Hodge playing half back (and forward for Burgoyne) and being called upon in the midfield when required. A major edge on the competition. We peaked with this strategy in 2014 when we obliterated Sydney in the GF with Mitchell, Lewis, Hodge and Burgoyne interchanging in the midfield. We know Day can play back and Smith can kick goals. It would make our midfield a major force in the competition.
Neither would iHe doesn't want to live in Geelong
Someone did the sums, but if the Suns traded us pick 4 for F1 + 30, they would need something like ~800 points in order to match their 3 academy kids based on where Twomey expects them to fall. That is the equivalent of bringing in picks 38 and 39 - which could easily be done by trading Chol and Hollands. You seem to have missed what the Suns are trying to do.
They have three Academy kids that they need to have Picks for in the top 12-15 players.
There’s a reason that everyone is saying the Dogs are leading the charge for Pick 4 and it’s because they hold two firsts that the Suns could land and then split for points at any point.
I feel sorry for people who don’t think he’s elite. I’m not sure there is help for you.IF… Bailey Smith is a ‘star’, THEN… I’ve lost all hope.
That really hasn't been working for us lately. And West Coast, who we have a good relationship with, are threatening to do similar to us.And piss off a player who wants to go elsewhere? That’ll definitely make it easier to attract players in future years.
Have a lay down, mate.IF… Bailey Smith is a ‘star’, THEN… I’ve lost all hope.
Rookie suits youIF… Bailey Smith is a ‘star’, THEN… I’ve lost all hope.
They need points this year for their 3 top 15 selections, you could offer them pick 1 next year it doesnt suit their needs.Someone did the sums, but if the Suns traded us pick 4 for F1 + 30, they would need something like ~800 points in order to match their 3 academy kids based on where Twomey expects them to fall. Getting a future early selection instead of additional points this year would be much more attractive.
