Fortunately seems like Dons and a north will do a dodgy. Dons pay extra for McKay to trigger pick 3 compo then north send compo to Dons for pick 8 and a f1. Dons get Duursma. North get the second top 10 pick they need for Reid. 2/8/f19 or similar gets pick 1. North trade suns 14/19/f20/42 for pick 4. North end up with 1/4 in this draft and take Reid and Watson. AFL assistance package does what it was meant to do. AFL don’t have to tick off the trades because they orchestrated them!
We keep our picks and players and hopefully someone in authority sits our list management team down and points out where our build is at and how mental that would have been.
Seems legit. Wouldn’t surprise me with how corrupt they are

I don't know- I think it could come down to what the clubs say to the players.

I don't want to lose any of the three- but I think of the three Cam/Connor might be easiest to squeeze/pressure.
Both are contracted and Vic boys aswell, it would be a massive task to get them to voluntarily move to West Coast.

Mitchell may have decided that Newcombe, Day, Nash is our core and should be complimented by that X-factor mid/fwd.

Worpel/Hust are grunt mids.
CMac can play fwd/wing.
Ward can play wing.
Frenchie doesn't have a secondary position…

That being said – if we’re committed to an absolutely bonkers trade that I hate – I prefer (in the loosest of terms) it would be Scrimshaw or Jiath.

Worpel doesn't have a secondary position. I don't agree that Hustwaite is a grunt mid, he's a classy player, not an in and under.

Mackenzie has played in the backline and is much more likely to become a grunt midfielder than Hustwaite.

Lets not get carried away with number one. Only one or two number ones have played in flags (including Hodgy) so on their own they aren't the saviour. Consistent formulae for success is that you have got to nail a draft or two that come through together and then get lucky with free agents and trades. We already get two first rounders this year with McCabe and then get another likely high one next year and that is if we don't trade out the future then to get another one. So let this year pass on by if we cant make it work for good value and keep developing our list and game plan and try to get creative with trading so that we end up with some established Marquee players or solid operators that can do a job.

For those that have actually watched a lot of Reid (Davo-27 perhaps?) - where do you see him at come round 1 next year? Could he hit the ground running and just storm into senior footy like Daicos? Or will he be a slower burn like say a Petracca?

He'd play forward and would command a decent defender from the go.

I’ve only watched a couple of his games. But from what I’ve seen and read I think he will be a slower burn than Daicos and Sheezel.

He doesn’t have the incredible tank those two do.

His tank is on the poorer scale. Will only be able to pinch hit in the middle. I would be surprised if he doesn’t do a lot of insanely good things in his first year just won’t be getting huge numbers. Once he gets fit enough to be a full time midfielder though the sky is the limit.
Oh I think Reid will turn it on as a forward in spirts. Mark him down for at least a goal a game.

What’s been lost in all of this which should dilute WC’s bargaining power a bit is that Reid wants to stay in VIC …… JHF is the perfect example of what can happen!
It feels like based off Harley's comment, West Coast would prefer to take Daniel Curtin in the draft and all the sides that come with selling Pick 1.

They're potentially stymied by which clubs they can sell that pick to, though, because Curtin is going to be taken in the top 5.

Hello, what would you offer for pick6?
Would it only be something that is part of what is wanted by West Coast for pick 1?

Haynes won't be involved with pick 6. He stays at GWS or maybe goes with 15 to North for 2024pick20.

With his tank needing a little work would the draft comparison be close to Cam Rayner? Or does Reid have him covered?

What are you looking for?

Don't all of Ward, MacDonald and Frenchy still live at home as well?

You'd not only be convincing them to move states, you'd be convincing them to move away from their parents for the first time. Whilst contracted.

I know players can be persuaded but I don't see those 3 being banished to the reserves long term as punishment either if and when they refused.
Not necessarily, they might be traded to another Melbourne club and the pick could be part of the Reid trade.

I don't want to lose any of them either, particularly cmac i think he will end up they best of the lot, but if you want generational talent, you have to pay.

Would be absolutely devastated if we traded Ward, my favourite player by a country mile and he has been from the moment we drafted him.

The discussed currency required to get Reid is mental.

In real terms, it could be Nick Watson + Bailey Smith + Josh Ward… wtf

This is getting silly. Now we are losing players we dont even have!

2024 trade period is another year away, we could lose a player for a high pick, buy some picks or trade 2025 picks. If Smith want to come here in 12 months it gets done. Trading a F1 isn't 'trading Smith'.

I am fine with this, Reid will be ripe for picking in 2-3 years.

North will have 1 & 5( not 4). So we pick Watson with 4, North take McKercher with 5

North - Reid
WCE - Curtin
Ess - Durrsma
Haw - Watson
North - Mckercher

Suns - Walter (bid match can happen from 1-4)

Will save Hawks from making any outlandish trades.

PS : if WCE are happy with 2+8 then they will be happy with 3+One gun player or F1 ( no need for both)

If that happens and north take Reid 1,eagles curtain and 2, dons duursma at 3, I wonder if we'd grab Watson at 4 before north's next pick.
