But one good thing is that 22 will be before eagles 2nd .. will help to get players both clubs interested in

While that’s true, I still find it depressing we are trying to trade back into the 1st round just to pick up the 22nd best 18yo in the league, seriously compromised draft with potentially 5 players in the 1st round being locked out of the open draft.

My favourite part of the year is trade week and draft night haha
It use to be for me but now I absolutely hate the trade period and I'm indifferent to the draft, especially when we don't have a high-ish pick.

Supposedly already have enough.
Depends where the bids come. I went through the process last night going off bids at 3, 10, 19 - I only got it work but that was with us trading F1, 21, 40 for 5, 56, F3.

They are essentially short a good pick in the late first to early second.

I reckon they would be looking for a F1 and 2023 second (25-32 range). That might get them close. But with their current picks they will fall short.

Time to get my accountant on. My maths to justify my pointless frothing on getting GC's pick

This can all swing by some arbitrary completely made up percentage (lets say 20%) either way depending on where all their picks end up but completely removing pick 5 IF they lose Flanders is an option IMO.

Also worth considering any team giving up say pick 14 for Flanders knows it's more like 18

Seriously though, is there any talk that they're thinking of moving the pick to us or just speculation?

Someone is getting GC's pick off them but no one will know who is getting it until MAYBE a few days out from trade period. Nothing but speculation connecting it specifically to us

By my count Gold Coast has seventeen players out of contract end of this year, with at least nine of them rookie listed players.

Out of contract primary listed players (games played so far this year):
Davies (8), Constable (2), Sharp (0), Casboult (15), Holman (16), Day (2), Flanders (9), Berry (6).

Let's assume Constable, Sharp, Day, Flanders and Berry aren't on their primary list come draft time and none of the rookies are needed to be upgraded.

GC Picks: 5, 25, 31, 43, 44, 56, 61, 62, 69

But they don't have the list spots to carry 56, 61, 62 or 69.

They need to trade out their surplus picks to trade surplus picks back in again when the draft begins.

Also, from the names on their out of contract list, they would have no problem delisting and re-drafting basically as many as they like. They could take in a shit load of picks if they want. No one is spending a draft pick and main list spot on Constable, Casboult, Holman, Day or Berry

So why not make a play for a pick ahead of any bids and load up this season with four first rounders?

I think history shows there's diminishing returns on just loading up on one draft. They are better off spreading some of it to next year. They could do that but I'm not sure it's the best use of capital

Walter is guaranteed to be bid on by pick 2 so it seems pointless
They could do some wink wink nudge nudge with North and get pick 3 (when they get it for McKay) but I dont see the point personally because it was cost like their future 1st for North to drop that far which just doesnt seem as good as getting a future 1st of a bottom 6 team

Even if they are more like water pistols than 44 Magnums

I understand the thinking but an endless supply of first rounders has done
nothing so far for GC, GWS, and a few VIC teams.
Retaining players seems to be our major problem, in drafting and trades.
If they are mercenaries or flakey types it’s like we are a beacon for them.
Even campaigners can buy in, it’s like we don’t do our research.
We need players willing to take a stand, and that is mental strength rather than
just talent alone.
