Been a while since I updated my rankings on here...

Nothing too out of the ordinary. Edwards and Moir dropping a bit, but nobody really climbed too much. I still rate them both higher than most - I doubt Moir goes top 40 at the moment.

Our first would probably fall around the mark for Tholstrup and Hardeman at the moment, maybe around the start of the ranges for Hall and Sanchez. Outside of WA, Delean could be one we look at. The one I rate much higher than others is Freijah, he could still be on the board too. Depending on what we plan for Young and Chapman in terms of midfield, it could open the door for someone like Hastie too.
We need to pick the best player in the draft at 20 odd, candidates?

Tholstrup is an absolute need so we need to compete with Eagles for his signature. Moir is another need but will probably slide quite a bit in the draft.

Chris25 has previously said Delean and I am also very much on that bandwagon if he is at pick 20 odd. IMO better alround game than Tholstrup, to the naked eye very fast and agile, skillful by foot but does the team things as well.

If he is not available, Riley Hardeman, whilst you could argue from a best 18 perspective is not a need (although if you look list wide wing / half back we are light on) as a tallish, line breaking good kick off the wing / half back who runs both ways should be around our pick. I think there is interest in him on the East Coast so possibly will also go before our pick.

And then, if neither of those two are available, I like Koen Sanchez as a zippy goal kicking small forward / midfielder who made the All Australian side as a Half Forward. Very good all round game, reminds me a bit of Michael Walters but with much more pace.

I have concerns about Tholstrup but I would consider him at this pick; the question is whether our recruiters would? His talent for goal kicking last year speaks for itself, but he has kicked more points than goals this year in the WAFL and the expectation was he would get himself fit to be able to play midfield, which didn't happen for reasons. I don't see a DeGoey more a Cameron Zurhaar; ie. still a handy player but I think we will want to get more out of a pick 20ish.

Would you consider Tholstrup "explosive" as per his rookieme profile? I would call Zurhaar explosive if that is some kind of measuring stick. I was really keen on Tholstrup after seeing him take a Fyfe-like mark in the 18's carnival last year (i.e. as an under ager) in someone else's highlight reel (can't remember who) and reading all the profiles/attributes he supposedly has. But watching his footage from the recent SA game, I just didn't see much explosiveness or raw pace. Was trying to measure his kicks using the 9m spacing between grass cuts, and didn't seem to have a huge leg either.

But I think if he turned out to be a Zurharr level player, then I would take that every day of the week for pick 21. Not sure it is realistic to expect more.

i agree, very time I've seen him play he seems slow. He's also very physically developed. I wouldnt be surprised to see him drop further then what everyone thinks

When you look at the list of talent that has left the club in recent years compared to most other sides, it makes walls ability to identify talent that is better than the average expectation for that pick even more staggering. He’s one of the few guys in this football club I still have massive faith in. Whatever picks David Walls has on draft night he won’t let us down. I’m certain of that.

It’s elsewhere that our problems lie.

Yeah I saw someone the other day list Walls as one who needed to be part of the clean out (well, they said Wells, but I assume they meant Walls?)

That staggered me, Walls is the only part of our club who consistently delivers above expectations.

Yes a lot of talent to choose from.

We could have brought in 3 players instead of 1 who is on 900k a year.

While we are paying Fyfe all this money to watch on fir another two years. He doesn't even have to play.

So jamming up our salary cap and drsft picks.

We never learn from these quick fixes. Look at Hogan and Lobb.
no guarantee the 3 draft picks make it.
Fyfe isnt on big money anymore & took unders to get a extra year

freo have take 6 first round picks since 2019 - plus Johnson now added Jackson.
plus have 21 for Logue
the list is still well placed with jackson

Yes but last draft we picked up no decent players. It looks like a bust and this draft we have no decent picks. Other clubs will have drafted well and caught up to us with talent

This year freo have pick 21? And can still trade?

Davies & Draper look like they can play need time to develop & put on size.
Wagner has been ok since he’s come into side.
Stanley looks a find.
You can’t judge a draft after one season.

Wouldn’t be saying it’s a bust yet

Overkill here mate. Stanley and Davies in particular are going to be long term players. Wagner, who I was massively critical of looks like a decent pick-up. Draper could be the best of the lot if he figures out his physicality and Knobel has at least 4 years before we know ANYTHING about him.

Have faith in the Walls, he goes alright

Emmett looks alright too. Just needs to clean up his kicking.
Yeah, feel like that will come.
He’s only been back playing, what, 18 months? Since chemo, and not playing for a couple years.

Let him build a fitness base and spend more time improving disposal. He has the campaigner in him to help him make it.

Yeah the last thing we need is more B graders. Team is full of them (most currently out of form).

We need some points of difference.
How about a dirty Sanchez? Point of difference. Sunny replacement? Bloke who makes goals happen from nothing. Could do with one of those. And we could have a lot of fun with that name.

I have a very good feeling about Emmett. I'm backing him in!
You haven't seen him kick or try to change direction. From what I've seen at Peel, I'm shocked we drafted him. He seems like he's got a big heart, and tries hard, but we seem to have slot of those, we need footballers who create space with hands, kicks and body movement.

Not many of them around pick 40 and later

Mate, within a couple of days you have gone from asking for an opinion from anybody who has seen Tholstrup, to saying he is an absolute need. The guy isn't even rated top 10, even top 20. I'm actually finding it hard to see anyone not rated top 10 as an absolute need for our list. If Cox goes then maybe Curtin is an absolute need.

I go back to what I said before we traded Jackson in. I think we were ahead of our trajectory last year. Trading 2 firsts for him is going to hurt us, the club got ahead of themselves. I don't blame Luke, I think he will have a great career for the dockers. But the club overrated the depth of our list.

WTF are you on about? I already have a customized Freo Guernsey with his name on it.

My mistake, I was referring to this...
I know just messin. There aren't many elite half-forwards in the first round. Dursma is out of reach and probably wouldn't want to come here anyway. The leaves Tholstrup and Delean which both have their strengths and weaknesses.

All kids do, and probably more so around were our first pick will land. For every high risk pick that succeeds there is more that don't. You don't mind this kind of problem when you already have a top 10 pick or 2 in a club shirt when picking in the 20s.
