Very odd with Berry, he had some currency too I thought. The Crows have pick 4, 64 and 78 as it stands which would meet the list requirements to take three players should you not upgrade a rookie.

But you’re right the public commitment to the other two making it a forgone conclusion, would be a shame if options like the above weren’t explored in list planning.

We don't have the option of not upgrading a rookie. Not upgrading a rookie would leave us with 38 players on our senior list and 5 on our rookie list, which is more than the 42 player limit.

** Not counting Cat B rookies.

I suspect they were only expecting to land 2 of the 3 FA/Trade targets, and when they ended up with all 3 it meant that their hands were tied as far as the rest of the list mathematics was concerned.

Absolutely assuming you re-rookie Burgess and Schoenberg, obviously in the mock draft I cold heartedly chose not to do that which opened the spot.

Unless somebody takes them as a delisted player ?
Yes. They could sign with another club as a DFA (though I think that window has now closed), or be drafted by another club before Adelaide's RD picks. Neither of these outcomes are even remotely likely.

Assuming they're still available at our RD selections, there is 0% chance that we don't select them.

I'd like to make a general request that almost certainly won't be adhered to but could people remove their politically charged avatars please? I come here to escape the impending march of fascism and would very much like to not be reminded of it constantly. Can we not have some solace from politics anywhere?

half agree, but it's a good reminder for whose opinion should be taken less seriously

Depth!!!

Any chance we can jettison s this crap and get back to the real draft that's happening next week!!
Absolutely. Where does Rhys Unwin go he was the other player I was looking at with Zak Johnson. Phoenix Hargrave and Herbert also seem to have fallen off the edge of the earth, any talk in SA about them being picked up?

Aren’t you guys about to do that?
There isn't an alternative.

They have to be on our list next year as we can't pay them out this year.

We can't "just pay them" in next year's cap, as they have to have a list spot if they're being paid.

It's the same as multiple other players being promised rookie list spots.

I guess we could pay a club under the table to draft them ...

No one is going to take 2 players who will not be in the AFL in 2026.
I still hold out some hope for Schoenberg. His 2024 season was affected by the achilles injury. Players generally take 24 months to fully recover from this type of injury, even if they are able to play after only 12.

Yes, I know that I'm probably being overly optimistic here. You're probably right, and he'll probably be delisted this time next year. I still have hope...

As for Burgess... he's goneski!

I know there was some discussion about being unable to pay the salaries of the delist-re-rookie players if we paid them out instead of delisting them.

But if the salary cap is $15.8 million and we were paying the salary floor of 95% then we would have anywhere from $790k to $1.58 million to pay out their salaries to reach a 100% or 105% cap limit

Unless we were hard up against the limit we should have the flexibility to pay out a low salary player like Burgess surely

Is there a genuine chance Lalor will slip to us or is Twomey taking the piss?
Well if we upgrade to pick 2 that would shorten the odds considerably....and we have spoken to the Lalor's again very recently is my mail as have several other clubs around us...So maybe they think Lalor to the Tigers is not set in stone yet.
