If the Crows are trying to trade up you would have to think it's likely in the hope Lalor is there at 2 or to guarantee we get Draper? Difficult to see them doing it for the others IMO.
You think the crows like lalor ? We really haven’t been linked to him .
Only really linked to
1. Draper
2. Smith
3. Langford

He better not be - but he'll also be full-time in our program.

I think we overrate how much influence we were allowed to have on him this year. Undrafted players aren't allowed to be full-time under your supervision or care - I think he just had too much time on his hands this year.
I suppose my question is assuming Welsh didn’t know 100% for sure we would pick him up, would he really have allowed himself to have such a mediocre season, stacking on weight and struggling to complete a 2km run? Therefore being a good chance to NOT be drafted at all.

If the answer is no, then perhaps that is what I am trying to say

Yeah, that seems fair enough.

Got a bit complacent as he knew he had a spot.

Maybe that's why the discussions have been had. On the off chance he doesn't go pick 1.

Can you imagine... slide the future first... do it Haggis.

I know the common opinion is that the top 4 of the draft is very even, but maybe our recruitment team have identified 1 or 2 prospects that they consider a level above the other two. If they have and they may have decided to back themselves and go hard for pick 2 to secure him.

If they've identified 2 clear top picks, or that we can get our top pick at 2 then we should be trading up. You don't get the chance at securing the best player the recruiting team has identified often.

I don't know why this is an unpopular idea at all. This seems like prudent, logical trading to me.

The list manager and head recruiter should be joined at the hip regardless of any decisions. Also involved heavily should be the head coach.

The real question - is who is the chief and ultimately makes these decisions - surely it should be Adam Kelly.

Joined at the hip - doesn't mean they wont have conflicting opinions - it means they need to be working extremely close together.

Maybe - Maybe not.

Clubs view things very differently.
The component of the List Manager vs Head Recruiter that you're overlooking is that they have exceptionally different goals and different metrics of success.

Once a draftee get to the club the recruiters job is finished, where as the list managers is essentially just beginning. Additionally, the list manager would be lucky to watch 5% of the junior footy played by the draftees that a recruiters would. So their attachment to these kids is substantially different.

Not to mention that at any point the List manager can trade away all the required draft capital to capitalise on years of work by the recruiters.

For me those teams need to be civil and open in communication. But at the end of the day they are essentially battling each other to ensure that their own personal goals and preference are met.

Could we send him and Schoenberg to the Red Bull training facility?
Rachele can join them to see if he can get his engine up to midfield standards.

I thought your post seemed reasonable but assumes 2 things (1) that Hamish and his team do see a clear top 2 (and not an even spread of top 4 as per most amateur recruiters feel), and (2) what do we need to give up. Anything to do with our F1 just isn’t doable. Imagine having another bottom 4 season next year (unlikely IMO) and we have given up a high end pick.

And the only one of them that may not be there of Smith, Langford and Draper at pick 4 is Draper IMO.

We haven't been linked to Lalor because almost every draft pundit doesn't see him being available at pick 4. Pick 2 shorten the odds considerably.

Yep have noticed that , I actually see it as potential upside , still learning about what he can do etc and how big he is

Huge improvement curve this year so I think he’s still learning
Interesting take Jeff, hopefully you are correct.

Worth noting early in the year he considered himself a forward that can play mid. By seasons end that was obviously flipped around.

Perhaps it’s just a case of needing more time and better coaching.
