By the way have you posted your top 10 and where you think the tiers are in that group?

I'm sure there would be plenty of interest on this board?

I actually have Lalor 4th. Don’t dispute he has probably the greatest potential, just think Ashcroft, Jagga and Lombard have the superior production to this point, combined with elite traits. Doesn’t mean I don’t think he’ll go 1 or should go 1 - would say yes to both. Richmond with all those picks and a high floor mid almost certain to be there at 6 but Lalor certain to not be, you take the high ceiling guy at 1. If they just had 1 and no more picks in the 1st round, think they pick differently.

I think Lalor would still be strongly in the pick 1 with Richmond discussion given they just lost Dusty, and he's the closest like for like in this draft?

From what I hear lots of club recruiters think he’s the highest ceiling player which has him at no 1 on some lists ( quite a few ) and lower on others due to not being sure thing compared to a smith

I think the more likely explanation in those circumstances is that he would have pulled his head in, especially being at the club full time.

I’d give more credence to tanking if he rocked up to the start of pre-season in great shape.

But I’m still very much of the position that the club would prefer him to be in peak physical condition rather than save a few late spots in the draft. He didn’t drop down because of his combine - he has been in free fall all year. The so called draft saving of tanking his 2km would be insignificant.

To my eyes having watched him in every SANFL game he played for the Crows. He only ever displayed a few small patches in a handful of games. Generally he struggled. The exception being the 5 goal game a huge win over the bottom team Port. They were pitiful that game. IIRC he kicked 3 in another SANFL game. I was very disappointed with his overall play. I mentioned at the time he was fat all year. I doubt if the Crows deliberately told him to tank.

The list manager and head recruiter should be joined at the hip regardless of any decisions. Also involved heavily should be the head coach.

The real question - is who is the chief and ultimately makes these decisions - surely it should be Adam Kelly.



Joined at the hip - doesn't mean they wont have conflicting opinions - it means they need to be working extremely close together.

Clubs view things very differently.

You’re right that footy manager ie Adam Kelly should be the person list and recruiting manager report to and hence the guy that has heavy influence on outcomes between the 2 areas of list management and recruiting

However Kelly doesn’t seem to be qualified enough or strong enough in his field to be that guy

The only one of the 3 I trust these days is Reid even though he doesn’t get everything right , overall he’s competent

I feel that Roo tries to take up the slack for Kelly’s shortcomings which is far from ideal scenario

Agree

There’s no way you’d waste an extremely crucial year of development to tank

Also the father / son rule is a far bigger advantage for 1st round talents than late picks where other clubs aren’t keen

We aren’t that smart to tank that well

I’ve seen many kids over the years lose their careers between 16 yo and 18 yo by not doing the right thing then starting behind the 8 ball and being washed out within 12-24 months

Haven’t given up hope though
