You may have seen I like Draper and Lalor the most of anyone at this end.

But I just don't think this top 5 is at that Dusty, JHF, Reid level.
Production is a concern for me with Lalor. As DiT says he could be anywhere from Rayner to Dusty. I think it will be somewhere in the middle.
Very good player, but not convinced he's a 250 game, norm smith, brownlow, mulitple AA midfielder.
He's hardly scratched the surface of what he could be yet, he's never done a preseason with 1st grade cricket commitments and this season with a groin issue that saw him playing catch up all year. Go watch his round 12 CTL game against the Bushies which is about the only game he played midfield all game 34 disposals 22K 13 Hb 10Cl 8M 5T 9 i50's 4 re50's.

All this when not fully fit...his upside is massive.

Played forward at Champs only because he wasn't fit and yet showed his match winning ability in an unfamiliar role.

All Australian at the U16's Nationals playing midfield again with no preseason of note.

Yeah but he is a Collingwood supporter flog :) ... negates all of the above.

Seriously just want the draft to happen so we can find out who we get... a bit like being a kid again and waiting for xmas morning to roll around

Best put the line through Jagga Smith then because he must also be a flog, he also supports Collingwood

Are we seriously ruling out players who support the Pies.

We need to grab the best player & if it is close with a local (like Draper), we then grab a local.

Pretty sure we have had players before who had supported the Pies.

And I forgot to mention Jagga's dad Michael was also drafted by Collingwood but didn't play an AFL game. :)

We went after Redman and Day both who knocked us back, which players did we renegotiate contracts for to take up that cap space?
I don’t believe this needs to be a re-signing (ie Fog extends for 4 more years). They can just adjust the yearly salaries (instead of 4x$500k, it’s now $750k, 2x$500k and 1x$250k) and have effectively moved cap space into future years. These adjustments won’t be reported.

Is it really that big of a trade?

Sliding a pick in next years draft back from maybe 12-22 to get the number one guy on our draft board. We wouldn't be making the trade for our number 2.

We've outright traded higher draft capital for Rankine and Dawson, offered a hell of a lot more for JHF. It really is a very small slide assuming we make or are very close to making finals which we should be. And honestly if we don't whoever we were going to pick at pick 8-12 next year isn't going to vault us into contention.
We’d need to consider who we’re taking to be head and shoulders above the others in that range, which I don’t think any of them are, personally

Also, it’ll hinder our negotiation position for any NWM trade next year

Very happy to stay at pick 4 when compared to trading in a future 1st to move up

I'll let you sneak a look under the Xmas tree

Dillon - with pick 5, Adelaide Crows select ................................ Sid Draper, South Adelaide Football Club

I have been told tonight that Carlton have indicated to Sid Draper that they have him as a priority.

Just some info
Honestly no one except those closely involved really knows the drafting preferences of clubs.

There is plenty of false information out there too.

I'm not too fussed as there will be a gun midfielder at pick #4.

My nephew who plays in south adelaide juniors said that consistent word is, Sid has had twice as many conversations with Carlton than any other club and have stated and Brice Gibbs is playing a part on the side to highlight Carlton as a great club etc

I have no doubt Draper is very high in their considerations.

However, the clubs don't tell players they will draft them... excluding father sons & some #1 picks.

Of course it is.

NMs pick is probably around pick 4 of the second round - that could be 30 next year.

Our first would be VERY tradable for a good asset - no chance of getting NWM if all we have is future picks.
