You could trade picks up until a couple of days ago, I think only 1 trade happened after the trade period. From then to draft night there is an embargo, but on draft night trades can occur again, but are done 'live' as picks come up. In reality clubs have agreed them beforehand eg 'if player x is still available at your pick 2, we'll trade our pick 4 & 2xF3 for your 2'

We can’t directly trade future picks for other future picks though can we ??!!

Like we can’t go and trade 3x future 3rds with a future 2nd from hawthorn for example can we ?!!

North would have to accept our future 3rds then later on next year trade them for a future 2nd ? if that’s What they wanted ?

Risk is definitely with Carlton in overlooking local talent that is in the same ballpark in terms of quality to select Draper.

Im not opposed to keeping our Pick 4.

But there is also a tendency at future times for him to pull out the '' I rated this kid'' 2-3 years later without mentioning the busts - which was the tenor of the original post by Scorp

Anyway Mutineer does find some crackers and I always listen when he’s got one … there is no way when I saw Sean Darcy at 18 that I thought Mutineer was right that he could be decent afl player , Obvs has his fitness issues but when he’s good he’s v good

Mutineer Obvs at times but a bit prone to loyalty to his vic country lads from the rebels ! That’s prob his main fault ! Lalor is a ripper though , him and smith 2 best in it for mine

But I’ll always double check on a player if he really rates them

Kai Lohman was another one I wasn’t on

Probably the first time in years, he will place a caveat with his Top 5 picks in assuming North keep Pick 2.

He wouldnt definitively know who North would want to trade their Pick 2 if they are inclined to do so.

I don't think you can.

You can only trade what you've got at the time.

Not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean with what current picks you have? Because there’s been multiple deals of a single current pick for a single future pick done during the draft before

would you say our picks swaps have been excellent over the years? if not leagues best clearly top quartile. we all know the ones - extra first rounder from GWS from going 4->6, the 2018 Blues deal, getting an extra second rounder a couple of yrs ago. and others

and for players leaving and compo received - ever since Dangerfield which was a different situation and when he was newish (still most ever gained for a FA at the time), and GWS 3 x first rounders for JC being like 14,17 and 20 or similar were almost exactly the same value we recd)

MM - overs
CC - deemed well overs at the time
Lever - deemed well overs at the time

trade ins before this year and even Peatling was a good deal with F2 out and F3/4 IN

Rankine - fair value. have always maintained he would be our best player and would join Jars and Macca as our most skilled player ever and thrilled to give up pick 5 for such a talent and not stuff around and risk losing him when GC were working so hard on keeping him

who Hamish selected is a different story but Reid has upheld his end of the bargain with leagues best (or very close to) picks swaps and also overall close to best trade INs over a 4 year period for us (best in 30 years)

does Reid not get ANY credit for this work above?

If you’re talking about future picks, adding 82 to that first deal fixes the problem

If you’re talking about on-trading, last year we traded our F2 to GWS on draft night, who then on traded that pick to St K
