And I won't be surprised if Bo Allan goes inside the top 10 though most pundits have him going to West Coast with their 1st or Freo. I think he has a lot more potential midfield upside than quite a few ranked above him. Not too many above him are close to as athletically or physically gifted as he is.
I could easily see him going to the Dees or Saints if he has passed their go home factors

Some good highlights of our 3 likely picks. Produced by a couple of Carlton geezers (who do know footy). Their clear preference was Draper due to express pace (Warner like) and he is starting round 1, 2025

Draper
FOS
Langford

He was top 7/8 in something I read today so not really a surprise

With all due respect to Smith, he’s a poor man’s Butters. Doesn’t cut teams up forward of centre like Butters can. More of a neat accumulator who prob doesn’t have the hurt factor we are crying out for in the midfield? A safe bet though if we want a dependable, consistent player with great work ethic.

I’m still taking a punt on Langford.

Agreed. Obviously not sure if that Ebert poster has a good track record or not
That’s the hard part.

I don’t think it’s far fetched though, it’s a no brainer for North if we can get it. This is the time when you want to call on favours with clubs you have good trading history with otherwise it’s pointless having those relationships

Surely a F2 isn't that hard to get so West Coast probably think the Hawks will finish very high in the top 8 next year so a few 3rd rounders would be better.
If it does have legs, it’ll be interesting to see if we have to give all three F3’s, or just a couple

I’d imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to get Hawthorn’s, given Melbourne are currently volatile and we aren’t exactly proven performers yet

To my mind the clear standout at U18 level this year has been Langford. The only knock on him is his lack of pace in testing. Langford compensates for this with elite footy IQ , decision making, and game awareness, physically being able to stand up in the tackle and dispose of the ball to advantage, an elite left foot kick that can spear passes up to 60 metres, an elite mark overhead, and borderline elite endurance. Langford can also swing forward and be a major goal kicking weapon. Langford has been elite at every level he has played at this year, and was the joint winner of the Larke Medal. Additionally, Langford has been exceptionally durable this year, which can't be said for Lalor, Draper or FOS who have all had significant injury concerns at various stages throughout the year.

With Darren Burgess working on Langford's fitness, Langford would pick up a yard of pace over his first 2-3 off seasons, increase his endurance, strength, and running power, and become an absolute weapon through the middle and up forward.

Look at Brownlow Medal winners over the past 40 years, to my mind less than 5 of them had what you would call elite pace, and over the course of a 200+ game career, typically pace is the first attribute to go. Elite footy IQ, decision making, game awareness, endurance, strength in the contest, durability, disposal, marking, leadership, and, goal kicking ability are far more accurate predictors of long-term success in the AFL. Langford has all of these attributes.

Everyone is open to their own opinions, but focusing on Langford's 'lack of pace' is a massive flaw in the overall analysis of Langford's traits and abilities which for the most part are elite at AFL level. Lack of speed can be compensated for at AFL level, lack of footy IQ, poor decision making, poor disposal, lack of game awareness, poor marking, poor goal kicking are significantly harder to atone for, compensate for, or fix in a substantive way.

I'm happy with pick 4. AC don't mess about. We should get someone of top quality there.

Of course he’s a poor man’s Butters, he’s 18 while Butters has played 6 years of AFL. However he is very similar to Butters at the same age, in fact he has better production but is very similar in traffic and how he uses the ball.

We have Harley Reid and…..

We have Harley Reid.

Stupid move by the club not to put a top 3 talent with him. FOS, Jagga, Draper would have all been a great fit. Lalor a bit too similar for mine but would be far more suited to your midfield.

I see Crows are playing us twice next year, probably won’t come to the Adelaide Oval game this time…

I was astonished in this super mid draft that they traded out. Adding another premier mid should have been a no brainer. I dont rate a single player the weagles bought in and frankly this is a trade they will be made to regret. Traded out a pick that would have netted them a premier midfielder for picks that bought in three meh small to medium size forwards. All the while trading out a star backman and a star tall forward.

They could have got the star mid this year and traded in these sort of players next year. The whole trade makes no sense. surely no one is happy with this.

Here's my plan

Trade with NM for Pick 2

Then stun them by selecting Tauru

North panic. Offer them our F1 + Butts for Pick 4

Can you trade players on the night? Oh... damn. Scratch all that

Forgot to add that in the Melbourne intel. They rate him highly. I know all clubs meet the families but they have definitely made the trip to WA a couple of times. Not worried about go home factor as they were with Curtin.

Well summarised. We shat the bed, can’t see many that understand our list disagreeing with anything that you’ve written. Although not sure Darling is a star anymore and whilst Barrass is, he was one of the only players we could get significant draft capital for.

Ive always had a soft spot for the Weagles. So this all comes from a place of good will. Matera for a long time was one of my favourite players.

Jack Graham for starters was trying hard to get home to SA and none of the clubs wanted him. Owies, was struggling to find a home when the Weagles swooped and really only was a steak knife addition to the Baker deal. Which essentially #3 for #12, Baker and Owies? I just dont get it this one.

Jeez mate, he played for Gold Coast and then Fremantle.

eaglevision is a West Coast supporter

Don’t sugar coat it mate, a turkey with a head injury would have made better list management decisions than we have.

I get it. Some people on this forum get their ass in knots if you are an opposition supporter. So was just trying to add some justification. Im just disappointed you didnt trade for Murphy. He is worth every bit of pick 12.
