That doesn't stop anyone from having a go at picking who they think will be the best....put it out there for future reference.
Personally I think young Langford will end up the best player of this draft.
I've been meaning to ask that question myself. A couple of days ago you posted a twitter post, listing all of the F/S and Academy nominations for the ND. Were they on that list?
I do like Lalor as well, but for mine the best player in this draft will be Langford for the reasons outlined below:
The only knock on Langford is his lack of pace in testing. Langford compensates for this with elite footy IQ , decision making, and game awareness, physically being able to stand up in the tackle and dispose of the ball to advantage, an elite left foot kick that can spear passes up to 60 metres, an elite mark overhead, and borderline elite endurance. Langford can also swing forward and be a major goal kicking weapon. Langford has been elite at every level he has played at this year, and was the joint winner of the Larke Medal. Additionally, Langford has been exceptionally durable this year, which can't be said for Lalor, Draper or FOS who have all had significant injury concerns at various stages throughout the year.
With Darren Burgess working on Langford's fitness, Langford would pick up a yard of pace over his first 2-3 off seasons, increase his endurance, strength, and running power, and become an absolute weapon through the middle and up forward.
Look at Brownlow Medal winners over the past 40 years, to my mind less than 5 of them had what you would call elite pace, and over the course of a 200+ game career, typically pace is the first attribute to go. Elite footy IQ, decision making, game awareness, endurance, strength in the contest, durability, disposal, marking, leadership, and, goal kicking ability are far more accurate predictors of long-term success in the AFL. Langford has all of these attributes.
Everyone is open to their own opinions, but focusing on Langford's 'lack of pace' is a massive flaw in the overall analysis of Langford's traits and abilities which for the most part are elite at AFL level. Lack of speed can be compensated for at AFL level, lack of footy IQ, poor decision making, poor disposal, lack of game awareness, poor marking, poor goal kicking are significantly harder to atone for, compensate for, or fix in a substantive way.

Yes, contested markers always have a bit of a head start over others .....I'm still not 100% on Langford as a CBA MID
Langford could spend a lot of time FWD ...or start FWD and and move into the Midfield after the CBA
With the 6x6x6 now, you need mids with dancing feet, and/or a sidestep

Word getting stronger that Geelong are looking to get into this draft in pursuit of Alex Dodson.
If they do it will be the 3rd Ruck they've drafted in 4 years. Seems they have a bid on Logan Smith as a fall back position as well as interest in WA ruck/forward Kayle Gerryen as a fall back position.
Might take their 1st next year to get clubs interested or maybe even more given how compromised next year's draft appears to be.
Probably means they have no confidence in Toby Conway's ongoing foot issues or Mitch Edwards being ready anytime soon.

Lalor IMO is a better forward than Langford if that's a requisite of the mid we take.
Personally I think Langford kicking is overrated, sure he has a bazooka boot but seems more a metres gained kicker than a precise kicker.
I really don't get the Dawson comparison.
Maybe you can succeed where everyone else has tapped out and tell me is the wing midfield, forward or defence? Or are you just trolling?
Langford has a decent sidestep.
He also seems pretty hard to chase down once he's up and going, so it's just those first few steps that are the knock.
Don't mind him, probably not my number one but not upset if we select him.
Wing is midfield, like ruck is midfield.
It's a particular type of midfield, with different skill requirements than a cba midfielder.

I still think people need to not look at the very open U18's gamestyle .....but look at how the player may transition to a quicker & denser AFL environment
Much tougher for FWD's to make the step-up, as the 3rd man up / intercept is now a staple of AFL play

Rubbish, Rachele still makes the top 10 in a redraft, and those few who have moved above him may not stay above him - NWM my only exception, who was our next pick.

If you're going to bitch about things, it's up to you to make a convincing case.
So far, you've done nothing to support the idea that the Crow's first round failures are vastly more than industry average.
No one has suggested we're great. People are only saying we do about as shit as most teams do, because the draft had a reasonably high failure rate.

He didn't use statistics in his argument, he alluded to them, but he provided none. It would be interesting to see his analysis of every club's first round drafting over the last near decade. Reality is though that he's done none and has just manufactured that analysis outcome out of thin air.

Yep and continues to sprout the bullshit McAseys mental health was the reason he failed just because he would have to admit his opinion on McAsey was wrong. It’s also hypocritical to use mental health as an excuse when he’s gone on record a number of times criticising people using mental health as an excuse.
Maybe he failed due to being extremely slow and immobile, maybe the mental health issues resulted being stuck in the seconds, being beaten by SANFL players and knowing his AFL career wasn’t going to plan led to his mental health issues and giving the game away.
But again WaynesWorld19 is calling something as fact and repeating it when it’s just his imagination. Whats not imagination how slow he was and he had struggled even in the SANFL.
The issue is you aren't defining the era's correctly. My analysis shows a significant improvement in the Nicks era compared to the Pyke era.
The reality is we have a 41% success rate for the Nicks era compared to 21% Pyke era - which is looking even worse with the recent delistings.
All smug and smart until you had to back it up with facts. Then turn and run. Nobody is surprised.
