In my view there is a place in the middle for Crouch. When he is surrounded by quality mids his inside work shines.

If we can keep laird out of there, our 2025 midfield will be better suited to his skill sets almost every other mid group he’s had in his career.

Anyone else watch Sid’s getable interview today and get the impression he’d rather not be a Crow? Was more enthused about going on an adventure interstate.
Nah, he was playing it with a straight bat, didn’t want to sound too enthusiastic for the Crows and no issues moving in case we don’t grab him.

He also spoke in a monotone tone throughout the interview

Don't want to show to much character lest Lairdy throws him under the bus before we even draft him

Have asked this before but would any other team have as many players who grew up supporting the club?

Dawson
Rankine
Draper (fingers crossed)
TT
Milera
Cook
Walker
Max
Hinge
Burgess

= pretty impressive list (many of our elite)

Pretty sure ALL of the above were Crows fans and below other SA boys I forget which ones but assume there would have been some.

Shoey?
Laird?
Dowling?
Pedlar?
ANB?
Cumming?
The Fog?
West Coast might

Why though? to me getting the 2nd choice in a generational draft would be a huge advantage.

I guess because my boy Lalor would be gone by pick 2 and that would be the one the Crows would trade up for. Smith would be great but having a Danger clone is not the worst thing we could get, future captain, local boy. If there isn't much between the next 3, take the local who has an aggressive game

I knew I was right in that you were the first one to claim Lalor, good judge of talent, how much junior footy do you watch?

I don't think I was the first but I have been following him since the SSA under 12s champs. To be honest I don't watch as much of the under age football as I could but my mate recruits for one of the AFL teams, Mr Kinnear Beatson

What’s the bet Hamish prefers Langford but the club would rather take homegrown Draper to avoid the backlash?

I just don’t understand how Langford isn’t being considered for pick 1. Cmon Hamish, pull a surprise. The melts on FB will be glorious too.

Probably is. he could easily be a bolter. This is an unpredictable draft where anything can happen.

Edit: Twomey said its unlikely now so pick 4 it is.
I wonder if some of the problem is who to trade those 3 x 3rds with? Our picks are us, Melbourne and GWS - all a decent chance to finish top 8, in which case those picks hold very little value for academy or f/s points with the new index. Even if all 3 clubs finished in the same places, those combined points are only worth between #27 & #28. if those clubs finished say 6th, 7th and 8th next year, those 3 picks have a combined value of less than #36. Not really an enticing trade bounty.

Given that's probably off the table, maybe it's only in play if Richmond don't pick Lalor and then we're prepared to swap our 1st for North's 2nd. I still wouldn't given I think Smith, Draper or Langford have just as much chance of being a generational talent.

Langford has an elite kick but I'm still taking draper. He has a good kick and he's just too explosive and fast to pass up.
Mostly agree... Langford has a long (rather than elite) kick and Draper's would probably be rated average rather than good (although not bad as some have surmised). But it's Draper's speed and burst that we need more than Langford's size. For years everyone has been lamenting our lack of leg speed in the middle; here it is. Take it.

It’s not just a lack of leg speed we have been missing- it’s the explosive power out of a stoppage

Our team is crying out for that attribute in our midfield mix

You don't appreciate handballing backwards out of a stoppage to a guy under pressure? Weird.

I feel like its pretty obvious that if Draper is available at our pick, we simply take him.

Given how even the top end of draft is and that in recent previous years if a local talent is around the mark, we have opted for them (TT, Pedlar, Cook etc).

ALso think too they wont want to run the risk of not taking him and if turns out a gun, we look foolish. Yes I know people will bring up the Danger/Ebert scenario but feel this is different given how much more exposed Draper has been and rated.
