FO'S and Lalor should both be ranked higher than Draper in terms of what Adelaide actually need in the midfield.

We need bust speed and power but we also need great footskills and cool under pressure a good decision maker

I agree that the Lalor v Draper is similar to Dangerfield v Ebert.

It's almost the most interesting pick we've had, there are so many options as the talent is so even at the top of the draft, nothing is clear cut
It's not like Ebert v danger.

Ebert was more vanilla than Draper. I haven't been Draper's biggest fan early in the year, but watching him in the Sanfl he's anything but vanilla. Has risen to sanfl league in terms of contested game and shown he's able to evade and burst away from the contest at the same time. He's a pure on baller and one with elite agility and very good speed.

I would be happy with Lalor over Draper, but I think we're finally in a position to grab a very good mid with our first pick. O'Sullivan looks high end too and then there's Travaglia.

Only one in not sure about is Smillie. Very big dude but I don't think he actually uses it that well against u18s. Not like Tom Green for example. Lacks a bit of class to overcome that imo.

I've been very wrong on drafts though so we'll see (will hang my hat on will day though) :)

The fact he's still in pick 1 contention after having hardly played this season should tell you the answer to that....also very good overhead and certainly one of the best mids in this draft with that particular ability.
Campo nominated him as the one he'd take if still available at our pick.

Yeah, I’ve warmed to Draper. His attack at the contest and spread from it is elite. I really worry about his disposal though, particularly by foot.

Lot of noise about Harry Boyd from norwood potentially winning the Magarey.
I know nothing about him. It's he too short for an afl ruckman? He could be a break glass late draft or rookie if no one falls our way earlier.

I’d be surprised at this point if FOS or Jagga isn’t Richmond’s choice for #1

Draper to WC at 3, too

Dunno about North, realistically they probably could do with a Lalor type, but they could go a number of different ways

FOS/Lalor/Draper in the first three picks is probably worst case scenario, though I’d still be okay with Smillie or Jagga in that situation
I’m going Jagga in that scenario , a guaranteed AFL high quality mid

Can’t see him getting thru to us

We need a Blight style off season. Laird, Smith, Tex, Crouch... Goodbye
Sadly we don't have the senior depth to cut/trade away all the seniors who are starting to labour

Either need to go very, very young and set the (supposed) rebuild back another 5 years

Or recruit seniors from other clubs to fill the void

Or carry on as is pretending that Smith, Laird, Murphy, ROB and co provide the leadership we need

I love Harry and he deserves the chance but I think he is to short for an AFL ruckman. While he has previously played as a forward I think there would be better key forward options.

Quite like the look of Dattoli. Nimble, tough, skilful mid/fwd. If we're able to generate a pick in the early 20s I wouldn't mind calling out his name.

I’ll take option 2 - ANB, Cumming, Daniel for Laird, Murphy and Smith

Hes just so much stronger than the other SANFL ruckman so his height doesnt matter so much. He won the Jack Oatey in the 2022 Grand Final. He has dominated this year. Dont think hed be able to do the same to AFL rucks though

It will be interesting how the Draft Combine numbers for some the CTL lads will compare with the preseason testing.
Taj Hotton probably doesn't test (ACL) early in the season. Going to be interesting how Archie Taylor (2025) tests next year after some inbelievable results at this year's testing, had a good under-age year playing mostly as a rebounding defender. Surprising how few of the top hopes either didn't test or didn't make the top 10's.

On Dodson, I hope we’d look at trying to manipulate the draft the way Collingwood did with (?)Alex Condon, get Dodson to go to college and pursue basketball for a couple of years and then sign him as a cat B rookie.

He’ll take at least 3-4 years in the gym before he’s ready to play consistent AFL football anyway, and we don’t have to spend a valuable draft pick this year.
