A likely scenario I can see playing out, if we wanted to make the upgrade to pick 2, is:

North F1 for GWS pick 16 and F1
North pick 2 and GWS F1 for Adl pick 4 and F1

This way GWS get a really good pick to replace a midfielder in 2025, while retaining a good pick in this year. GWS have a lot of form with this type of trade.

North slide down to get their man, while also getting back into the draft pick 16 - where they can get someone like JWhitlock, or another tall - which I understand they want - currently second pick is 62.

They stay in the first round next year with our F1, could be top 10-12.

We go up a couple to get the best available mid, while picking up GWS F1, which we will be looking to on trade for NAS anyway, but it's still good currency if we keep it, could be similar to ours, likely higher but who knows?

Who is losing here?

Yeah this is plausible

North not getting a lot of value for their F1, but it doesn’t sound like they’d get much more than that for it anyway. Maybe change 16 to 15?

So to try and make this more appealing than sliding our F1 I will put forward the only other trade that I see being mildly appealing to NM.

ADL: F3 + F3 (leaving us with 1 x F3)
SYD: F2 (need points for academy kids and this is a decent points haul)

ADL: 4 + F2 (Syd)
NM: 2
Sure, that would be fine.

Can't see NM doing it, but I'd be happy

Trading our f1 and p4 for p2 is totally worth it. Next years draft is compromised beyond belief. Most of the first round is either academy players or father sons. We cannot risk missing out on Draper. Drapers explosive speed and attacking game is what we have been crying out for years for.

Yep

There's death by a thousand cuts players (Pendlebury, Sam Mitchell)

Then there's explosive, splash play guys (Petracca, Dangerfield, Dusty)

Jagga appears to be in the former category. I like him because we have never really had this type. We've had the crash n bash bulls. Not a lot of nuance or thought. He seems like a smart footballer and I'd love to have him.
That is why I like him

If we got pick 2, why wouldn't we take whomever of Lalor or O'Sullivan was still on the board?

If missing out on Draper means we can still get Smith ... I'll keep the f1 and take Smith... Wouldn't even think twice.

Draper > FOS and Lalor is going 1 so we can’t get him. Everybody please watch Drapers highlights. I’ve watched him live on multiple occasions and he is unquestionably the one. Future captain

It's a no brainer!

All this talk of trading up when we are in prime position to grab a gun midfielder is crazy talk.

What if there are concerns regarding one of the top 4 being a go home issue and that player falls to us at 4 (Draper already picked). Let's say it's FOS that falls to us but we know he's a massive flight risk.

Do you then wish we traded up for one of Lalor/Draper/Smith?

If the club does anything with our F1 - including shifting it down - to move up in a group where there's no consensus over who's the better player, then we should riot and spill the board. If we're worried about players leaving, then be a better club, one that wins finals and flags. Players generally don't leave those often. If we want Draper that badly, be a better club that he'll want to be traded to.

I also think it's more likely than not Draper is there at 4. Did hear something interesting (not from a viable source) that Carlton may have actually traded up for Taura - thinking North will trade out of 2. Seems unlikely but given they have exactly 1 AFL standard KPDon their list, that might not be completely absurd.

I think we will go with pick 4. But the way I badly predicted the USA election its most likely that you will have to think of the most opposite thing we can do and thats the likely event.

As the saying goes

Even the sun shines up a dogs arse every now and then

so who knows, I could get one right.

I think we do too. Feel the obsession with us getting Draper is largely being driven by opposition supporters/clubs assuming we think we absolutely have to have him - which I don't believe is the case. Even looking at our draft history, TT is the only local I can think of we've taken in the top 10. And that was the obvious choice at 2 after we'd bid on a Vic kid.

*and yes it's a sombre mood Stateside today. We truly are moving towards the movie Idiocracy becoming a prescient documentary.

Without droning on, i am refusing to let the result get me down because to me thats how he wins. Screw that, no predictions on his performance. As for the topic

The local media and fans fear flight risk. So to them Draper is a no brainer. Im of the opinion to trust in the clubs rankings and based on our drafting philosophy, its always been take the best player available with our first pick no matter what. So if its Draper it will be for the right reasons. If we rate him at our pick we take him. If not its going to be the best player we rate. We wont walk past for a flight risk.

Disagree.

If you are convinced one player is going to be much better than the other 3 guys - you get your guy.

If you genuinely believe one of the 4 is gonna be a "dusty" level player - you do it.

This is what the recruiters get paid to do.
