You could argue that thr list of mids is at a point where we need quality now and so drafting for gaps is pointless there. We need to be trading

An 18 year old mid with pick 65 isn't going to be moving any needles for us next year.

We brought in Smith and already have Clark, Knevitt and Clohesy fighting for a spot
Agreed.

Thought we would add an outside mid though with a late pick.

We didn't take one midfielder in the draft... despite it being our worst part of the ground all year
Because we traded for a midfielder last month.

Didn't know 3/4 guys we picked but that was also the same for Lawson 12 months ago.
Liked the Hofmann pick, had him ranked 43.
Do we have rookie list spots available? Wouldn't mind taking a punt on one of the Werribee boys
in Henderson or Brew, or Archer Day-Wicks who is my highest ranked player not drafted.

Probably at our end of the draft the only ones worth considering were Boxshall and the kid from Sandy Dragons that went late. Time will tell whether they amount to anything.

Yeah agree.

In film terms, we've got the supporting cast, but we need the leading man, and that's easiest through a trade when we're not a club that picks in the top 5 seemingly ever.

Really anything post 20 or so is unlikely to deliver that. It's possible, (Lachie Neale, Dane Swan) but highly, highly unlikely.
