Armstrong family so happy he didn't go to St Scum.
I got excited as i thought we would take him and believe me they thought we were keen.
Anyhow i have one left
Your tackling kid? (I am blanking on the name.)

Any chance the third McCartin brother gets taken?

Not being a smart-arse, but I feel like you might've answered your own question in a way.

"How many good key forwards can be found in later stages of draft"......"Even if Armstrong fails."

Maybe we didn't think Armstrong was good, and weren't very convinced that he wouldn't fail?

If we picked him and he did fail, then it's something of a wasted pick. We'd have used a first round pick on a Joel Amartey (sorry Joel!)

Instead we have used a first round pick on someone we think could be a Papley. I'm actually really OK with that.
An above average keyforward wins u games

Wins u finals

Good smalls are important

But far easier to find

With Jesse added to our mix we won’t win a grand final if McLean or Amartey are still plying for us

They just dont have that high end talent

Jesse is a safe bet

Does not make our team better

Just makes us competive and top 8

Not top 2 threat

Not with our current key F and Ds

We can’t afford to buy them on market

Draft is the only way

We have no depth in 2025 in defence. In fact some may argue Melican is probably not good enough to be in the best 22 of most sides, and he is only in ours as we have no other option.
Melican was awesome this year. If either of them were lucky to be getting a game this year, it was McCartin. I still have hope he can get back to his best with the benefit of a pre-season and if he has some luck with concussion next year.

Snell and Edwards are better depth options for next year than any KPD we could have taken tonight.

Could Sydney be looking at Stumpf (butchered that) or Gerryn with their next pick instead of Kennedy.

Any insider knowledge?

Edit: apparently i didn't butcher that name

Hasn’t stopped Geelong and other sides not picking weird types
In the same period and same range:

2011: Pick 23 Cam Guthrie
2013: Pick 16: Jackson Thurlow
2017: Pick 23 Lachlan Fogarty
2018: Pick 15 Jordan Clarke
2019: Pick 16: Cooper Stephens
2020: Pick 20: Max Holmes

So two good picks (Guthrie and Holmes), three flops (Thurlow, Fogarty, Stephens) and one good pick no longer at the club. Not miles better than ours.

Are smalls easier to find?

I think their increased importance in the current era's game has meant you need more of them. One or two quality smalls may not cut it anymore. Brisbane won with four, Collingwood with four, Geelong with three, Melbourne with three.

You need a genuine cohort of them nowadays and so I think if you want them, you have to be prepared to prioritise them like you would traditionally-important positions like inside mids, key forwards and key defenders.

I would also argue that a quality crop of talls won't save you if you don't have a quality crop of smalls, but a quality crop of smalls can save you if you don't have a quality crop of talls. If that makes sense.

It's hard to be a gun KPP and clubs don't want the investment cost of a first round pick on a maybe

Especially when you can bolt on a small that will play Rd 1 and kick goals from the get go for the same price
Yep like Sydney could be looking at Gerryn or Stumpf tomorrow more of an agile KPF

Three good picks and Fogarty is solid for the Blues Weirdly missed him this year. That’s more than we have, I mean I get it we can’t pick everyone that says they want to stay home but where’s the line and at some point back your system

I remember an interview with Stumpf on SEN. He likened his game to that of that very good Geelong FF who left GWS. Sounds like a great kid.

How many times do you need to be told we are keen on Kennedy !

If he’s there I’ll be shocked if we don’t pick him. Why on earth wouldn’t we? Wants to come means here’s an idea we aren’t worried about retention with him

Stumpf?

Now just what the heck is that?!

Face Palm GIF

Fascinated to see how the media tries to spin Essendon’s draft victory this year.

Could have had pick 9 + Kako.

But don’t.

lol @ Essendon. The gift that keeps on giving.

I guess it would have been worse if they kept it and the Saints bid at 8, didn’t like the value they got though

And this is a big call without really bothering to look at lists and consider how I rate players, but I get the sense that every year the gap between the total number of KPFs and small forwards on AFL lists that I'd be willing to trade a first round pick for is decreasing.

I like the fact that as an inside mid he can genuinely kick both sides. That alone excites me.

Yeah we have met him a few times bedford is correct have heard the same thing we are very keen.
