This just makes the Bice pick even more bizarre.

No issues trying to get a Cunningham replacement with Leidler, Paton, but both these guys AND Bice (when these 2 can also run off half back)?

How many Half Backs can a team have? Well, we just drafted 3 new ones. One in the Draft & Two Rookies. We don't have a bad record at Rookies, so maybe at least one will work out. Paton, from the Saints, is interesting. He gets another chance & being mature, he is ready to go in case we get injuries to Rampe, Cunningham or Fox.

I looked at Dattoli's highlights reel. He is very styrong & made most of the other boys at the level looks small. He also stood next to Brett Kirk & was bigger than him, in bulk. I think Dattoli will play next season. Bice is a mature player who could also play if needed. I also think our VFL team will be much better for the inclusion of all the recruits. Now the Devopment Coach has changed, this means the young players WILL have a chance to show what they can do. Adam Kennedy has only just left the game so his knowledge of the process & way the game is going is very high. I hope he can relay this to the players. The way he played the game I am sure he will have a lot of respect.

It's the Bice pick that I don't get.

Leidler and Paton also lockdown, though I'd have thought one would do.

Might mean both Mills and Roberts are heading into the middle.
Bice is a rebound defender. Great kick & he gets the ball 21 times a game. The other two are lockdown defenders. Rampe/Cunningham/Fox types. I think they are looking to give us much more flexibility. Mills, Florrent, Blakey, Roberts will be able to play a few different roles for us. I already like the fact Lloyd has gane back to the position he was drafted as, a winger/inside mid. Our mids up until this time consisted of Heeney, Warner, Rowbottom, Mills, Adams, Sheldrick, Jordan (who was basically used at HF a lot too as a defensive forward), Parker (used part time only), Paps (used part time only), Lloyd (used mainly on the wing).

Next season we introduce Dattoli (who the club thinks is a mid/forward not a forward/mid. Two lockdown defenders & a rebounding defender. This gives the coaches the ability to free up one of three more players to the mids or to change the positions of up to three players, providing a much more flexible & a real conundrum for opponents as to what they are getting. It also allows for more flexibility during games.

You can only assume - the club might be moving away from the midfielders as defenders theory and actually picking guys that can defend. So potentially no more using Roberts, Florent or Lloyd down there

They've already said Mills is going into the midfield, which is good. Roberts I don't know about. His contest work looked very average this year so we'll see where he's at after a pre-season focused on preparing for the midfield if that eventuates. Sheldrick & Cleary are the ideal types, just a matter of if they are fit/ready.

But Bice, Bowman, Leidler, Warner, Hayward, Papley, Florent, Campbell, Jordon, Gulden, Blakey, McInerney, Kirk, Roberts, Warner Jr. and Lloyd is a ridiculously large chunk of the list to not offer much physicality-wise. 11 of them were in the 22 this year and that was already too many. Only one of them (Lloyd) is even close to retirement.

If Horse & co are serious about winning a flag, then all we're doing is just adding to the VFL team for the next 5-7 years.

Sure, but then you've still got Blakey, Jmac, Roberts (if not mid), Campbell.
Gulden, Florent JMac as the wingers

Back 7 of:
Blakey McCartin Cunningham
Rampe Melican Fox/Patton

Roberts off the bench?

Lloyd still misses out it seems so we have too many flankers again

Small defender

Great pick

Not sure the issue this is an elite pick
It's both of them, plus the Bice pick.

Then failing to address KPF or mid.

Only way I can spin it is:

Mills, Roberts to mids with Paton then Leidler to replace more defensively. Maybe Bice to replace Roberts.

We're going to 2 KPFs.

I love your last line though maybe Horse was worried about my pitchforks lol

Not sure I'd include Jordon (a tagger) and Campbell (who needs to be used properly) in the list of non physicality.

Leidler can also lockdown, as with Paton. I'd have just gone one though.

I would. Jordon's not hard. Good at what he does but doesn't look strong when getting tackled and doesn't look strong when attempting to tackle himself. Campbell is a good tackler but if used in just an outside running role then it's a bit pointless.
