Each of those players were drafted at a similar range to the selections we had tonight it's the number, not the round I am going off here (in previous years these were two second round picks)

Dean Towers was drafted in 2012 to a vastly different recruiting team to a team that has just won a flag and was looking for mature selections to make an immediate impact. Very different situation to now.

Stephens I admit was a failure of a selection, same with a few others, but all clubs have failures honestly we do a great job building our list, so am going to back us in.
I dispute that Stephens was a failure of selecting. He failed to develop much beyond his draft level. Down to us, to him, to the stars? He was rated pretty much where we picked him.

My point though is that you criticise our recruiters not addressing our clearance issues, but I'd argue they have. Go back and look at the junior profiles of any of those players and our recruiters undoubtedly gave us players perfectly-suited to fix our clearance issues.

and if our clearances are still failing then you keep drafting until you find a way to fix it. It is one of our biggest weaknesses.

We paid something like pick 12 for Ted Richards.

So a trade and not a draft pick.

Paired with pre season selection Craig Bolton
Replace by rookie Reg Grundy
Replaced by rookie pick Rampe
Replaced by rookie pick Melican

Not sure what KPD outside of Matt Whitlock there was to pick (who is 3 years away minimum)

If we want immediate cover in KPD will require a trade.

The coaches seem set on our KPFs and however we have no developing KPFs outside of Buller.

He had the athletic traits admittedly, just not there mentally.

Cleary spends the year in the VFL, Campbell takes a step towards asking for a trade, all because we refuse to see what's in front of us.

Cleary replaces Parker so that’s an obvious change half the reason we wouldn’t have bothered if he left. Not that fussed on Campbell though he was better this year admittedly

Happy to trade for a key defender, but again, you need to use a good pick to get a good one. We are not willing to do that either.

For me it’s the mix. We have no KPP coming through academy, we can’t trade for them as we have no TPP and we need them for horses game plan and refuse to draft them…..

So I guess amartey will save us…. I think Richmond are a better chance to win the flag in 2025

This is palpably not true. Our tall forwards are all young and snell is on the list.

The real question is why we think the existing tall forwards cut it when they clearly don’t.

This..It's up to the players to pull their fingers out.

Ffs. This was of. If not the best midfields I've ever seen from the swans this season.

Some weird PTSD from the GF has turned some posters into thinking this side is Norf. Or something.

Honestly for some . Get off Bigfooty and AFL media for awhile.

Clarity.

Sam Taylor was taken at pick 28 dont tell me you cant find AA quality the problem is WE DONT TRY.

In agreeance with you, okay with Bowman's height and role but we left Shanahan on the table. They must think highly of Chamberlain

Or they might have found something in these forwards interviews they all slipped massively not just Shanahan. Armstrong was seen a chance for the Dees at 5 lasted till 23. Faull was the bolter but he’s been all the talk lately

Campbell's being absolutely wasted. Can stick a tackle, good kick for goal.

I just don't understand why we don't play him in his draft position, then we sink multiple firsts trying to get a small forward option (also having seen Cleary do well and drafting Hanily).

That's not the recruiters job though. They're not privy to the inner sanctum of the coaches box each week and the match selection committee meetings, team meetings, one-on-one player discussions, etc. So they can't always make decisions based on what happens in those situations where tactics and development decisions are made.

There is communication between the recruiting staff and the coaching staff for sure, but I think they would operate quite differently and not always in tandem. For example I don't think Beatson would be thrilled with some of the decisions Horse has made with players that Beatson gave to him, and similarly I don't think Horse would be thrilled with some of the players that Beatson gave to him.

If we can't win the Grand Final then the side is not good enough, and it is very obvious where our weaknesses are, weaknesses that are not being addressed. You may be happy coming in second year after year, I am not.

I don’t know how more obvious we can make it- we were NEVER taking a key defender with our first two picks unless Trainor slipped and that would be on talent

I just knew these Jesse and Ned would be our picks

Had a feeling

And it was confirmed when we could have taken Armstrong but opted for Jesse

I am not saying there bad picks

But we could have taken Armstrong and Bowman

That might have been better for us

We don’t have the key forwards or defenders to win a premiership

They are not of that caliber

Hamling was still contracted for next year. We moved him to the rookie list to free up a spot for the ND and save a few $.

Are that’s right was Francis wasn’t it either way we have enough depth for next year

You sort of need a right foot to play small forward not against it per se but thinking he’d be some great one I have queries on.

I can't agree with that Bomza.

I thought there were issues with the midfield all season long. They had their tyres pumped all year for the goals they kicked and the highlights they produced, and never got flack for the clearances and hard balls they didn't win. I would say it ended up being costly.

But I agree that our recruiters can only do so much. Their involvement pretty much ends once they deliver the player to the club as an 18 year old.
