This..It's up to the players to pull their fingers out.

Ffs. This was of. If not the best midfields I've ever seen from the swans this season.

Some weird PTSD from the GF has turned some posters into thinking this side is Norf. Or something.

Honestly for some . Get off Bigfooty and AFL media for awhile.

Clarity.
I can't agree with that Bomza.

I thought there were issues with the midfield all season long. They had their tyres pumped all year for the goals they kicked and the highlights they produced, and never got flack for the clearances and hard balls they didn't win. I would say it ended up being costly.

But I agree that our recruiters can only do so much. Their involvement pretty much ends once they deliver the player to the club as an 18 year old.

I’m always apprehensive when players are drafted as general or small forwards.

Sure some players like the wizard , theyre size pretty much dictates they play that small forward role. These kids that are drafted are mean to to be the best of the best, and at jr level they are the best player in every team they’ve played on. It’s concerning why these guys have been pigeon holed as small forwards, when at jr level you put your best players around the ball , mostly regardless of size because they are that good.

Well then we better be happy with basically no defence in 2025 if McCartin goes down, as that is what our recruiters have done after years of inaction.

No defender this year would have played next year none. Whoever we picked this year has no bearing on us next year. Similarly picking Green last year had no influence on ruck depth last year

We'll at least take Cochran late to add to the key depth. Wonder how Snell and Edwards will fare next year. There's quite an age gap between those two and our starters. Certainly a bit worrying when also looking out our depth.

Still pretty bullish on Snell, highly rated within the inner sanctum IIRC via Beatson.

Mod Notice:

If you have an issue with the Bowman selection have the curtesy to not stink up the kids first AFL thread. That's what this thread is for.
I don't think that the comments re Bowman are negative in the sense that he is a dud.
It's more the case of who was still available at this pick who most feel were better options and that his selection was not fitting a club list need.
I hope he proves the naysayers wrong and becomes a valuable member of our team but I will absolutely hate it if 3 years down the track Shanahan or Whitlock are major success stories at their respective clubs.

Snell is getting good reviews

Plus Edwards. Both almost debuted last year another pre season that’s the depth.

Edwards, Snell isn't inaction, but I'd have preferred a KPD like O'Farrell, Mraz over these picks.

It is inaction when you consider how late we selected those two players. Edwards is a Cat B rookie and Snell was pick 53. They may work out, who knows, but that shows we are not too serious about selecting a KPD. The positions you are most serious about you use a first or second rounder on.

There is another 15 players at least who are very good left

Of that group I like

Gerryn Moarz Sims

Angus Clarke (I think)Hugo Boxall Riak Andrews

Hamish Davis another one or two

I really hope our current next pick of 41 is not used on Cochrane

I would love to see if we can do a swap with GWS at 36 and move up

Either way it doesn't belong on the players thread.

Ahh my favourite time of the year.

After months of deliberation, we eventually draft players we didn’t expect at all, queuing the posts of “500 pages of absolutely nothing, what a waste of time the draft thread is”
Aged well. Anyone care to do the honours? :p

One year would be nice. I am not a fan of winning 0 Grand Finals out of 4.
There are plenty of clubs/fans that don't even know what a GF is

Alas.

This is well trodden ground.

It's only the 6543 mention of it in this forum.

Would be nice to address the draftees and what they offer.

Rather than constant revisionist bs
