Analysis for Charlie.

“A contested marking key forward who presents at the ball full-chested, combining speed and strength while also chopping out in the ruck.”

i dont know if the difference betwen Allan/travaglia vs Hotton is enough to warrant us trading out 29 in a deep draft. i would only do this if a reid, smillie or tauru slid.

My only issue is we have more immediate needs over a ruck but I wish that wasn't the case
If only Soldo went back to Vic as intended, I would have loved to draft Dodson at 29 assuming he still is there by then. Having 4 rucks in the squad with 3 of them playing in the magpies isn't ideal and would hinder their development.

My issue isn't that we would have 4 rucks in general. My issue is that we would have 4 rucks while having other deficiencies that won't be filled if we took Dodson at 29, assuming he slipped through

I agree. Port has some deficiencies and constantly trying to plug it up with B/C grade talent has only shown how badly exposed we are at the pointy end of the season. Doesn't help that for whatever reason the team's intensity fails to lift a touch or two and has to be emotionally driven to get to that level which isn't sustainable in the long run.

Ken's already insisting we draft him at 13, just to make sure we don't miss.

Won't even have to learn a new name for his game plan.

Just thinking out of the box, we need an inside midfielder, not immediately but for the future. It would be wise to delist a Cat A rookie like McEntee or Williams and open up an extra spot for Ollie Francou. I think with time he could become a solid inside midfielder. This would save us a pick in the top 40 and focus on other needs, maybe even allow us to get Dodson if he gets to 29. Ollie only started putting in consistent performances in the 2nd half of the season but the potential is there. And it'd come at no cost.

As it stands I don't think we'll draft Montgomery or Francou but would've liked to take Francou for sure. He fills a bigger need over Burgoyne and Montgomery.

North firming to hold on to pick 2.
Melbourne and Saints now keen on Tauru so apparently not worth the risk of trading down.
( Melbourne and Saints maybe playing games to bluff North into using 2 so a player they want slides?)

Ashcroft to one side.

1. Richmond takes Lalor.
2. North takes Tauru.
3. Carlton now has a call on Jagga/FOS/Draper and all of a sudden everyone wants Bo?

Someone is sliding to 10 if a deal can be done?

The other way Hotton isn't in the 1st round I'd trade down and go for

Hotton
Dodson
Mraz

If this Charlie has talent, that would fill a need on the list big time.

At 195cm, unless he has a growth spurt, he won't be playing ruck at AFL level.
