List Mgmt. 2024 AFL Draft - November 20-21 (Picks 13, 29, 36, 50, 94, 112, 130)

Nobody on any of the other boards are screaming Josh Smillie.

It would be a ridiculous slide but it's not impossible.

Melbourne's pick 9 might be gettable if we wanted to sell 13 and our next 2?

You'd think about it?

We need a Ollie replacement and that's not happening once Tasmania come in. Sharp is at Richmond next year.

Jesus Christ I hope not he's a horrible kick. Good luck to who ever gets this bloke he's going to burn the ball every possession.

If it's not Hotton or Tauru or Reid, we gotta split pick 13 say for 18 and 20 from Richmond. Then that puts us in position for Shanahan and Hannaford. I don't see Jagga, Langford, Lalor, FOS, Draper and Armstrong slipping through to us and tbh Tauru and Reid are unrealistic too.

If we take any Half-Backs in this draft I'm gonna throw up (other than Burgoyne)

How big are you on Hotton?

I’ve watched his 2024 highlights and the quality is clearly there but I’m a fraction put off by his highish (almost loopy) kicks. Still, if that’s what is available at pick 13, you’d jump at it.

Berry or Hotton are the best fits for us at 13- immediate impact as a forward and a big upgrade on our 7th forward.

Dobson at 29 would solve all ruck problems moving forward- given Soldo goes at year’s end.

After that we need a key back but Gerryn may be the go.

I want Barratt, Rome and Montgomery.

Should we be stocking up on a couple of kpp whilst we get the chance?

Think that's what happens if we don't get the player we want at 13. Trade 13 to the Swans and go for KPPs.

That is not a bad strategy.

It's just that we have the same issue getting a quality mid before Tasmania come in as we do getting key position players.

Smillie is a quality inside mid. Hotton just looks quality.

In my top 2. Will be a gun. Groupthink is alive and well

If Armstrong is available at our pick we should be picking him, even though i rate Hotton higher. Shanahan as well i’d be happy with at 13.

I'm big on him as a forward rather than a midfielder tbh. I see a bit of Shai Bolton in the way he moves and gets around traffic and creates those shots at goal. He does those loopy kicks to get distance when he's on wing. But I don't think that'll be his position in AFL. He should be playing within 70m from goal where he's dynamic and makes things happen.

The question is which quartet would we prefer?

Hotton, Gerryne, Urquhart and one of Murphy/Day-Wicks/Bowman

Shanahan, Hannaford, Gerryne and Urquhart

I am not that big on Armstrong, especially because I feel like if we draft someone like him we will look to continue to bomb it in.

I actually prefer Shanahan out of the 2, feel like he's a better all round tall forward.

I think you'll find that modern footy has changed the typical KPPs that were beasts like Dixon. I personally prefer we take Gerryne who can play forward ruck or Charlie West later in the draft. Clancy Dennis is an option for KPD.

In a draft as midfield heavy as this, I don't think we should be taking more than 1 KPP

God I wish we had the currency to trade up. I would've given up a lot to get Tauru. Will be a gun!

But nobody is going to pick an 18 year old kid as a bomb long target in senior football, that would be madness. And please no Hinkley hur dur, nobody would do it.

It would take him 4 years at least to be that sort of option and at 195cm he's not even that big. Do you really think we would have the same forward strategy in 4 years with Hinkley long gone?

And every club wants a big option up forward for the bail out kick, if he is going to develop into a physically big player.

I've only seen a couple of minutes of highlights but he appears to kick a few goals from long range so he must be leading for the ball and has actual forward craft.

Gerryne is probably more a bomb long target.

I look at Christian Moraes who they have at 29 and can't help but think of Jasper Pittard.

That would be a fun pick.

Gerryne is probably more a bomb long target.
We just used a future first round pick on Jack Lukosius. Our last 20 years of drafting says it’s highly unlikely we also use a first round pick on a key position player no matter how good they are.

I don’t think we should either. Lukosious, Marshall (if ok), gerogiades, finlayson and lord is ample ready to play talls.

If they like gerryn as the developing ruck/powerful forward with one of the later 2 picks that would be ok.

if we get a tall forward like Armstrong, Tom Scully will get the axe. Same with Kyle Marshall if we draft a tall defender.

I think we need a small lockdown defender who can take on the speedy small forwards. Lachie Jones is not the answer for me.

Might also need another wingman since I don’t think Boak should be guaranteed a spot in the starting 22; 23 sub.

We’re well stocked with half-backs and if we get Rome Burgoyne and maybe Louie Montgomery as F/S as rookie picks. That’ll be the best case scenario.

Don’t think we need to draft anymore small forwards for now especially with Joe Richards coming in and Benny Barrett as an NGA selection and as a Cat B rookie in the best case scenario.

Might need to draft a mid but who I wonder since Wines is coming towards the backend of his career and there isn’t much coming through the two’s. Mead isn’t the big bodied midfielder and Jackson and Lorenz are more outside players.

It’s a shame that Soldo couldn’t be traded because I wouldn’t have minded Dodson but since Soldo is still there, it’s not the most wisest thing to draft another ruck since that would mean less development time for Dante.
