Yes but there are much stronger bodies at AFL levels to compete against so if his competitive advantage is height and height only then it'll be an issue imo
Scully was 204cm tall.

We cut him because he wasn't an "aggro" type of player! 😒 At least according to our forwards coach.

You'd normally allow at least 3 to 4 years development before making that kind of a call.
But ........ we are Port Adelaide, so ... 😳

Not sure why people would think that Whitlock would be any different?

Scully was poor overhead and had little forward craft, we took him with a late pick punt, but those who watched him a junior knew that he was poor overhead, he also came to the sport later hence his lack of craft. Whitlock is leagues ahead of him in quality and why your best quality kps come early in the draft.
Scully however was a bit stiff, maybe another year of dev was warranted, club probably new there were better talls to draft this year.

We are taking someone who can spend [emoji6] minutes in the ruck. Thats why its Whitlock or Gerryn

Why would we when we have Soldo & Visentini who can ruck in their own right. Then throw in Finlayson, who’s actually pretty good when his head is switched on. I’d be grooming Lord in that group as well.

I'd take, thinking Ports priorities are tall

1. Whitlock or Shanahan OK with either.

2. Whitlock ( the other one. He's going to have to get use to that ) or Mraz.

3. Mraz or Moraes.

4. Gerreyn. This is on the assumption Dodson went between our 2nd and 3rd picks. This is on the assumption Moraes is gone.

5. Josh Dolan for nothing would be a steal for mine.

Expensive key forwards are overrated. Midfielders and small forwards win flags nowadays.

Why are people running with this when it’s been disproven. The only explanation that’s been offered to back up “small forwards win flags” is that 7 players compromised of small forwards, half forward flankers and mids / forwards have kicked more goals than 2 players playing kf on a few grand finals. Which is as nonsensical as it sounds.

We are taking someone who can spend 5 minutes in the ruck. Thats why its Whitlock or Gerryn

If our kf line going forward is some version of Mitch / luko and maybe Marshall , sure, we can absolutely argue the best fit for any grouping of those is a taller kpf who can ruck..

… but trying to thread the needle of drafting that exact player with a high draft pick when said player likely even if they work out isn’t going to be rucking for us for 3-5 years anyway seems like an unnecessary complication to add to something that is already complicated and risky.

I wouldn’t… I think it’s imperative that we take one tall and one small with our first 2 picks. How that looks I don’t know, but we need a high end player in both areas.

Yep if it's Shanahan you grab him there and bank on someone like Hannaford, Gross, Urquhart, Ough, Kennedy being there at 29. Or even go tall again then and take one of those mids at 36. The talent pool is still solid then.

Mind you Twomey hasn't linked Freo with any tall, more interested in mids.

Be fascinating to see what we do if Reid is there at 13. Or Bo Allan. Cal Twomey in his last Top 30 suggested West Coast weren't as locked onto him as people think.

Agree I think Shanahan and Hannaford/Gross is a chance.

If Hamish Davis is available at 36 then I'd take him with Dennis at 50.

Only one of Reid and Shanahan will be available imo. Have to take whichever one is available which will simplify the decision. In the remote chance both of are available, have to take Reid because I like tall prospects later in the draft better than midfielders

Hipwood is the #1 key forward in the current premiership team and would easily get a game for us. Not sure this is the criticism it is intended to be.
He's the #1 key forward now with Daniher gone. He hasn't played that role while Joe was there. Let's see how he does in that role now.

Hipwood imo is no better than Marshall except Hipwood gets better ball delivery. I'm not sure he starts for us if we are fully fit.

Name one player we have cut in the last decade that has gone on to do anything.

With McEntee being elevated to the main list we only have 4 list spots left for the national draft. I doubt Dolan lasts to our pick in the Rookie draft.

Not many clubs are interested in him . Even he will be available at even pick 21
Richmond are very interested in him at any of their picks between 18 and 24. He's got plenty of interest with Dogs and Richmond the ones with most. Would say 23 is the latest he'll go by could also go as early as 17. If he slips to 30 that'd be a steal.
