Why isn’t Barrat getting a mention?

Is it to close to Barras

We traded up for Weddle and the Cats traded a F1 for Holmes. Can see the value of trading into the first round for who you want. Problem is Roos traded a top 3 pick and the first rounder they got is actually a mid second rounder.
...but are any of those top 3 picks going to be a key forward? or are they all mids - North have so many high pick mids its embarrassing - they desperately need key position players. Having said that its still a bit stupid

I'm not saying that.
I just think they have drafted an exceptionally good bunch.

Lalor as the forward/mid
Smilie the inside brute who could also have some versatility in defence.
Hotton - huge upside. ACL is not the end of the world, and they could afford the risk with their draft hand.

Faull, Armstrong, Trainor - yeah good. Solid, no complaints.
But the first three are very good.

It's a draft.
Just like we all had opinions before the draft, we can have opinions after the draft.
Of course it's early to proclaim assured dynasties etc

But let's not kid ourselves, they've played a blinder.
Moved on a bunch of players who did nothing to stop them from finishing at the bottom.
Harvested a top draft hand.
Executed perfectly.

Bravo.

I know you are just talking about the draft in isolation and agree they have got 6 first rounders, so this is a great haul.

At the same time how did they get there:

Hardwick bailed on them - Gold Dust
Brendan Gale bailed on them - Tassie
Dusty bailed on them - retired early
Rioli bailed on them - after B&F win
Baker bailed on them - Return West
Graham bailed on them - Free agency

So they are down 4 x best 22 players, best CEO and 3 x premiership coach...

Hmm...great draft haul yes 100%, but they are starting from the wool sheds out back before even becoming competitive.

Their culture has been killed in last 2 years and after wooden spoon last year the rebuild starts from rock bottom ... make no mistake about that.

If you want to be St Kilda ... celebrate draft night ... it is top 4 finishes, grand finals appearances and premierships that matter.

Richmond may have maximized their draft hand, what led them there is the cancer that is still left for that club to recover from.

It will be fascinating to see if they can rebuild some hope for their supporters...

Ask Carlton and Dees about multiple high end picks and guaranteed success. 1 premiership in the last 60 years combined will give u the answer.

I'm hoping for a big forward at our pick.

Espn fantasy draft had...

35. Hawthorn - Thomas Sims
Northern Knights/Vic Metro
FWD, 199cm

Sims is the man for the Hawks at this pick - if he makes it through. Pairing Calsher Dear with a long-term partner is ideal for Sam Mitchell's team after another injury setback for Mitch Lewis. Sims runs hot and cold, but at 199cm his reach, booming kick and strong hands is a good package to develop.

What I like about Sims is that he looks genuinely capable in the ruck. Reminds me a bit of Spida Everitt

I'm still chuckling at North's trade last night. Just close the joint down.
I am in disbelief still. They legitimately traded away their top 3 pick for Caleb Daniel’s pick, genuine insanity

The Western Bulldogs have landed pick 25 in exchange for Daniel. Daniel had interest from the Kangaroos after a mixed 2024 season

So who are the potential players that we could draft that are remaining?

I have a sneaky suspicion Tom Gross could be available at our pick. And as much as I've been saying we need a KPF, I feel like we might just go best available if we believe we get a mid-late first round prospect at this pick.

Before we're on the clock, I personally think the picks might go like this (edit - if no trades were to happen):

Pick 28 (RIC) - Alex Dodson
Pick 29 (WB) - Christian Moraes
Pick 30 (WCE) - Jobe Shanahan
Pick 31 (WB) - Noah Mraz
Pick 32 (STK) - Hugh Boxshall
Pick 33 (POR) - Jack Whitlock
Pick 34 (FRE) - Jasper Alger
Pick 35 (HAW) - ?

Players available: Tom Gross, Angus Clarke, Hamish Davis, Thomas Sims, Jack Ough, Kayle Gerreyn, James Barrat, Josh Dolan, Gabriel Stumpf

Who do we want here?

We can as long as we maintain Carlton’s future first.
In that case, would trade 35 and the F2 for the opening pick tonight and grab a tall.

If Shanahan is still there I would trade our future first for the Dogs 29 and 31. Maybe a small sweetener. Grab 3 talls with that plus our 35. Trade for a midfielder next year.

Doubt we'd get both back but I'd definitely throw the kitchen sink (including F1) at Shanahan and try to trade up to one of the first 3 picks (Tigers, WB, Eagles).

I honestly don't think paying up F1 is overs for someone who was projected to go in the top 15 and likely the best key forward (with Armstrong) in this draft class.

Tigers don't have F3 so that'll be hard unless they settle for 35 + F2. Rumour is they want F1 tho (as seen with North).

Bulldogs would definitely consider the deal giving us 29 + F3 for 35 + F1. Again, it looks like overs here but Shanahan is worth a F1 imo. But I do feel like it depends on if the Dogs think they can get Moraes with 31 or else they probably wouldn't do the trade and just use 29 on him instead.

Eagles pick would be the hardest trade to pull off because they've only picked one player so far and they'd just take Shanahan at that pick instead of dealing with us.

Well, one premiership combined in the last 30 years.

You can't double the time period because there are two teams, it's misleading...

Tauru will be the best of this draft when we look back in 2035. He is going to be a gem, so bloody jealous we couldn't nab him.

I agree. His timing combined with how well he reads it and marks it is prime McGovern levels.

I feel like the saints has a massive win with travaglia/Tauru

What are the chances Anderson gets bid on before our pick?

Absolutely no chance. There's too much talent still left on the board. It'd have to be a team taking the piss for that to eventuate. St Kilda are the only team in need of a midfielder but the likes Boxshall, Ough, etc are surely rated higher than Anderson.

But the boring reality is Levi Ashcroft with a few premierships and possibly competing for Brownlows with his brother lol.

All jokes aside though, Tauru will be a seriously good player. Looks like a Sicily type but with even more potential.
