North just chasing the Weddle unicorn.

It's kinda crazy how North gave up a likely top 3 pick for a guy Sydney overlooked for an absolute nobody who they had to scramble up a highlight package for.

Any compo pick they get next year isn't affected by having traded out their pick beforehand. In your scenario they'd still get Pick 3.
Ah, OK. I thought I read somewhere that it was dependent on the first pick they had, not what they should have had.

Seems I was mistaken.

I’m more supportive of North they’ve been drafting forever and they know what they got as a player and it’s guaranteed pick 19 which is a strategic pick that clubs will make good offers for. It’s a lot but on points assuming they finish 16th it’s giving up pick 33 I think the critique is harsh that’s about the live trading premium. To be honest I’m sick of North being shit I want to see them improve.

North will get the compo pick at where they finish not tied to the Richmond trade. So, my sauce seems on the spot about LDU looking elsewhere next year. We're one of those clubs but one club in particular are just as much chance as us, if not more.

Would love to trade up for a Jobe Shanahan but how without the f3 is the question. With our current hand we could offer tigers 35 f1 for 28 but would need an f3 coming back which they don’t have. Not immediately apparent how we could secure that f3 separately to facilitate the deal. Would someone like Port take 65 and f4 eagles (57) for their f3 (50ish)?

Smells like a Clarko move.

Trading out a 2nd for old man Daniel and a future 1st for a pick in the late 20s.

Either it's a genius stroke and North rise up the ladder and the unjustifiable trade is somehow justifiable (I can't imagine any scenario it is outside of North miraculously making it to the top 8)

OR

Clarko walks away from footy with a nice payout and leaves it up to somebody else to pick up the pieces.

Win win for Clarko.
So in a round about way they traded Caleb Daniel for a top 3 pick? I would be melting

How about we try trading F1 to the Dogs for 29? They have a F3. Dogs don't need KPFs.

I think Richmond would be nuts to pick Shanahan/Whitlock after going Faull & Armstrong already.

Which leaves WCE, Saints, Port, and Freo as the only realistic threats for Shanahan/Whitlock.

Heck if we could use 33 + F2 for 29 (idk if this is possible or not), that would be a STEAL.

I assume if no trades first 3 picks are Whitlock or shanahan to tigers with the other to the eagles and moraes to the dogs in between.
31 fee like dogs take Tom Gross or a Hamish Davis
32 saints need a mid feel like one of the above not picked by dogs or Boxhall or Ough
33 port either Angus clarke or Noah Mraz
34 freo need a forward suspect jasper alger or could take Gerreyn but doubt it
35 hawks if gross or Davis get through I’d take them Mraz could develop behind frost and Sicily or Sims Gerreyn Stumpf

Assuming that Richmond take Jack Whitlock (twin of Matt) or a mid and Dogs don't need another KPF, I would like us to explore 35 + F2 to WCE for 30 to pick Shanahan. He's slightly undersized for a genuine tall but his contested marking is elite and I think he could complement our mobile fleet nicely.

We're in a good position regardless though as there are plenty of players I rate still available. Davis, Clarke, Stumpf, Dodson and O'Farrell are just a few I believe have higher upside than some of the prospects already taken.

I think we just wait it out from here.
There are very good alternatives if he's taken.
