Because it's not about who West Coast would select. It's about who Freo or GWS, etc would select if West Coast traded with them instead of us.

Does seem a little strange that we skipped on Reid. He's exactly what we need. Gun mid that could play as a small forward.
But the fact that we did that trade is just crazy. Clearly WCE called our bluff. We telegraphed we wanted Berry, they call us up and say give us 45 or we will take him, we get sucked in and bang we lost a decent pick in the draft.

Anyway, the one thing we used to be able to at least feel good about, drafting and trading, compared to our coaching, is now at the same mediocre level. Awesome.

Don’t get me wrong he does fill a need for us. But we didn’t need to do the pick swap to get him. And arguably we should’ve gone best talent available, and could’ve filled the need for a small/medium forward later.

Happy enough with berry. In terms of trading up if we didn’t it would have been freo that did, and we obviously rated him higher than who we would have gotten after that. Melts are unnecessary. Also frees up a late pick to match Barrett if he gets bid on in the national draft.
How do you rate berry?
I’ve watched very little of him, I just think it’s bad business taking small forwards this early. So many bust, they bust more often than 1st round kfs ffs. There’s maybe 5 ish good small forwards in the league despite how many are drafted every year.
