Don’t get me wrong he does fill a need for us. But we didn’t need to do the pick swap to get him. And arguably we should’ve gone best talent available, and could’ve filled the need for a small/medium forward later.

Fills a need?
So we have Rioli, DBJ, SPP, Charleson, Anastasopoulos, Richards, McEntee, as small forwards, plus JHF, Rozee and Butters can also spend time forward and impact the scoreboard.
That's ten small forward types, now 11 with Berry.
That's a quarter of our list FFS!!!
Surely we have to delist at least two of them??????

Obviously the club encouraged the KPF talk to try and keep talk away from Berry.

They traded for Cameron, their best and only true small forward.

Who they spent a first round pick on recruiting.

Did WCE give us anything so they could get Allen before Freo?

They had a pick before Freo.

West Coast ask Freo if they want Allen. Freo say no we want Berry. So West coast ask what they'll offer to move up.

They then have the same chat with us asking us to beat Freo's offer to stay ahead of them.

Freo were never selecting Allen either.

It seems pretty stupid, it seems we were bluffed. It's fair for people to think the trade is silly, especially when on the surface it is ridiculous. They should be explaining the decision post this first round.

If we don't need 45, we can trade that for a future 3rd, and use pick 1 million to draft Rome.

We don’t have elite ones.

Rioli is aging and inconsistent.
DBJ is bang average.
SPP is good.
Charleson and Anastasopoulos unproven.
Richards mid 20s and probably average.
McEntee is awful.

JHF, Rozee and Butters need to be spending the majority of their time in midfield.

Berry is not who I would’ve picked, but I see the logic. Just as long as we clear out the worst of our small forwards over the next two years.

You’re assuming we were bluffed. If the options were we are losing 45 to get the player we want and not lose him to freo, or keep 45 and get a player we don’t want at 16, I’m getting rid of 45.

Well, what’s done is done. Berry will be a very good player for us and does fill the one position in our team that we are / were weakest in. Why are Charleson and McEntee still on our list though?

Contracts. We don't have the money to throw away those contracts unfortunately. Still surprised we did it with Clurey, can only assume he is getting picked up.

If WCE didn't give us anything for going up one pick then looks like we are only going to take 3 players in the draft and potentially 2 in rookie draft.

Our list was 34+3 before tonight, so looks like we will go with a 37+5 list + 2 Cat B's if we take Benny Barrett.

Or if we have to bid on Benny it will be 38+4 + 1 cat B.
