No, we clearly have no midfield depthShould we be stocking up on a couple of kpp whilst we get the chance?
We just used a future first round pick on Jack Lukosius. Our last 20 years of drafting says it’s highly unlikely we also use a first round pick on a key position player no matter how good they are.
I don’t think we should either. Lukosious, Marshall (if ok), gerogiades, finlayson and lord is ample ready to play talls.
If they like gerryn as the developing ruck/powerful forward with one of the later 2 picks that would be ok.
I would have thought they would be desperate for best available mid.
I think we are targeting Cochrane in a few years to add to our midfield.Eh. I think they’ll have a draft board and if they work off of that. If they rate Armstrong as a top 10 player and the first 9 are off the board, I think they take him.
Of course it’s not black and white or an exact science, and players could be rated around the mark together and might lean to another position.
Tho I would be surprised if they take a kpf with our first pick, as I think rich or saints will take Armstrong, and port will likely like the collection of mids / runners available at our pick.
We have lost 1 kf to retirement , Scully is almost certain to be cut (I disagree with that tho) 2 kfs hang by a knife edge (Todd , Finny),
That’s potentially 4 kfs going out the door in short order. And teams will be after lord again.
I think we’ve only got 2 guaranteed kfs right now.
We do have a need for a genuine on baller to develop.
Isn't he projected to be in the running for the No.1 pick in 2026 draft? Callum Twomey bookmarked him to be the No.1 pick. Would be great if the AFL approved him to be in Port's NGA academy AND we get the rights to draft him. 194cm and could potentially be taller come draft night.I think we are targeting Cochrane in a few years to add to our midfield.
Soldo doesn’t want to be here, we signed him to a 3 year deal and you would think end of next year we are looking to off load him again. If Dodson is there at 29, which I highly doubt, but you must grab him regardless of list make up. He could play on any line on the ground, he and Visintini could set us up for the next 10 years 2028-2038ish.if we get a tall forward like Armstrong, Tom Scully will get the axe. Same with Kyle Marshall if we draft a tall defender.
I think we need a small lockdown defender who can take on the speedy small forwards. Lachie Jones is not the answer for me.
Might also need another wingman since I don’t think Boak should be guaranteed a spot in the starting 22; 23 sub.
We’re well stocked with half-backs and if we get Rome Burgoyne and maybe Louie Montgomery as F/S as rookie picks. That’ll be the best case scenario.
Don’t think we need to draft anymore small forwards for now especially with Joe Richards coming in and Benny Barrett as an NGA selection and as a Cat B rookie in the best case scenario.
Might need to draft a mid but who I wonder since Wines is coming towards the backend of his career and there isn’t much coming through the two’s. Mead isn’t the big bodied midfielder and Jackson and Lorenz are more outside players.
It’s a shame that Soldo couldn’t be traded because I wouldn’t have minded Dodson but since Soldo is still there, it’s not the most wisest thing to draft another ruck since that would mean less development time for Dante.
Heard he is looking to head to Africa to do some volunteer farm work to provide for the starving children in Zambia? Is sick of the social constructs being a promising Junior footballer trying to finish school.Isn't he projected to be in the running for the No.1 pick in 2026 draft? Yep, just like the Will Ashcroft / Fletcher year.It is really great to see that the battling Lions get not only the #1 pick for free as F/S, but also another top 20 NGA for free. Should hopefully help them be competitive and move up the ladder over the next few years.
Very true but, our KPF depth is on a knifes edge. If one of Armstrong/Shanahan is available at 13, then we should probably pick them, then go for one of the smalls second, whether thats a Moraes, Urquhart, Hynes possibly could fall, Day-Wicks etc.
Having said that, some of Sims, Faull, Whitlock, Gerryn will be there with our second too

Gerryn in his highlights moved exactly like Scott lycett to me. Even looked like he’s gonna be built the same when he’s done. Without watching him play games I’m not overly sold on him being a kf.

Id argue that Georgiades, Luko and Lord is better than both Collinhwood and Melbourne won flags with.

The highlights I saw showed him as agile, clean below the knees, and able to kick both feet.I thought exactly the same when watching Gerryn. Maybe it's just his physical appearance (face, body size and shape) but he does look like Lycett. To be fair, he seems a better forward than Lycett was. I'm ok with using pick 36 on him if we have used our two prior picks on small-mid sized players (e.g., mids / forwards).
I think in a professional environment, focused HEAVILY on running for the first 4 years of his career, opposed to the weights centric outlook West Coast had may hold him in a different shape over the course of his career. The highlights I saw showed him as agile, clean below the knees, and able to kick both feet.
Does physically resemble Scooter, but reckon he's a tad more athletic and skillful.
Think I said it before but he reminds me of Rowan MarshallThe highlights I saw showed him as agile, clean below the knees, and able to kick both feet.

Add to that list Old Duck Duck himself - Joel Selwood had an ACL the year of his draft, his durability wasn’t bad.ACL isn't a big deal in itself. ( Robert Gray, Petracca, Gawn, James Sicily etc.)
Due diligence of course.
Think the first concern is athletic ablity.
Then work ethic.
Football IQ.
Character.
Stats say he can play.
The effort he put into extra training to improve his aerobic capacity suggests work ethic.
Family has played AFL and Sandringham Dragons. I'm thinking there's an understanding of football there.
Character. Port can sort that out.
