Been thinking about the state of affairs at my club and put down some thoughts. Hope these might be of use to some going along tonight who ask on our behalf - it would be a great service!

Governance

- The Crows regain membership control of their club on October 31, 2028. When will we be granted the same arrangement for member control of our club? Will this board petition the AFL for the same conditions?

- Will this board seek consent from the AFL to implement at least 50/50 allocation of membership-voted board members until then?

- To David Koch. Will you stand for the next available member-elected position to effectively seek membership endorsement of your leadership?

Chasing greatness

- This is the longest premiership drought in our club's history. This board has presided over the majority of that drought. Four members who joined the board at the end of 2012 are still here today. What accountabilities are in place to ensure the regular turnover of club administration?

- In 2021, Matthew Richardson announced his Chasing Greatness strategy (https://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/863094), which included three flags (conveniently at any level), 100,000 members, Debt free.

We had less than 67,000 members last season (8,000 more than at the start of the strategy). We have no premierships and our first SANFL Wooden Spoon since 1900. If we do not meet these KPIs this year, how does this board and management propose to hold itself accountable, given the membership has no power to do so?

Football

- Ken Hinkley is the longest-serving coach in VFL/AFL history to not reach a Grand Final, and entirely at our club. Will Ken Hinkley be renewed this year?

  • Has the club promised Josh Carr the senior coaching position after Ken Hinkley?
  • (when denied) will the club commit to the next coach of the football club being appointed after a comprehensive independent, external football department review, which is also tasked with appointing the club's next senior coach?

This is a great post and all of these questions are valid. That said I would honestly rather just everyone asking a question repeatedly asks your first one. Don't let them slipperily evade it again:

"The Crows regain membership control of their club on October 31, 2028. When will we be granted the same arrangement for member control of our club? Will this board petition the AFL for the same conditions?"

George is being cagey at the start of his reply to Question 3 above.

He knows the ‘conflict of interest’ fingers are pointed at Cos Cardone.

Goodness me, it was George himself who told me years ago that Cardone would constantly try to shoot down Bring Back The Bars by going around the board room and the rest of the club muttering “Who cares about the bars?”

This is a plant who’s been a member of the club board since October 2012, who aims to take over from Koch, whom Caro herself on national TV has called “clearly conflicted.”

I have voted for George. And I want him to make it known that Cardone is in his crosshairs.
It would not be a good decision to voice this publicly even if its obviously correct.

Also Cardone isn't the only one with a conflict of interest. Our own chairman didn't know that we had won a final in 2002 and 2003 so you'd have to imagine he wasn't even a Port supporter at that point.

Pity I am not a member anymore as the first question I would be asking Koch is when did making finals count as a successful season?

That is not the Port Adelaide I grew up with.

So the board are having an emergency pre-agm meeting and Hinkley is getting sacked? Awesome!

I know you say this in jest, but the Board are indeed meeting this arvo.

All they will discuss in the board meeting is a plan of attack on how they will deflect all of the questions raised at the AGM.

Probably discussed that at their Penfolds dinner last night 😂

Ignore Chewys posts. dont let it run the thread.

two questions, anything else is a waste of time

1. The only AFL run club to win a Premiership in the last 20 years is Sydney. The Crows will move to member control by 2028. Now that our finances are in order, what are we doing to take back control of our club?

Follow ups:
The last Premiership won by an AFL controlled club was Sydney in 2012
This question has been asked at multiple AGMs, why don't you have an answer?

2. why has the CEO of Eddie McGuires media company (JAM-TV) been on our board since 2012, and when does he hit his term limit?

Follow ups:
Has his conflict of interest ever been discussed internally?
Isn't it best practice to have board member term limits?

How about "do you think it is appropriate that the AFL have the right to veto the member elected board members when we only get 2 anyway"?
Dont ask that. Just ask stuff that is easy for the other people attending to understand.

The AFL doesnt need to veto anything. They didnt do it for tredrea why would they do it for anyone else.

Build distrust of Cardone even before he becomes president
Let people know all successful clubs are member controlled

My understanding is that George is not in the country right now. I believe he will have been afforded the opportunity to attend via Teams.

It's a regularly scheduled Board meeting.
The new board member will need to be approved by the board at todays meeting and then endorsed by the AFL.

I believe they didn't attend (even virtually) as a guest.

Last year when Tredrea was elected, the AFL approved both candidates (Tredrea and Abernethy) prior to the Club announcing that those were the two candidates on the ballot.

George wouldn't be a participating member at today's board meeting - but he would have been afforded the opportunity to sit in on the meeting as a guest observer - just as Tredrea was at the Board meeting prior to the AGM in February earlier this year.

Are they going to mention how many votes he won by like when Tredders bear Aber as the board plant?
The fact that Aber was so keen to get on the board last year that he ran against Tredrea but then couldn't even be bothered running this year is a clear indication of his real reason for running for the board last year.
