Pendles ahead of Matthews?

I mean…they just showed the stats of the all time Brownlow Medal Votes.

Pendles was 4th or 5th in a list of 8 or so players that were all Dual Brownlow Medallists.

Dual Premiership Player. Norm Smith Medallist. How many AA’s? How many Copelands? All time possessions record

So..yeah?

Did Darcy Cameron even get a vote? The umpires have completely lost the plot since Wines tied Dusty’s record

Sorry, don’t mean to be rude but..
Why do you post this crap?
It’s his 3rd season, another 10th or so to go!

Ok and?

Does that guarantee he’ll win one? Plenty of incredible players, even consistent ones don’t win Brownlows. Look at Pendles.

Your assumption is based on…nothing?

Mine is based on something a tad more concrete.

Next season if Ed Allan can average 24 touches and 7 clearances in his first season as a full time starter, it could be the making of our own version of cripps.

The football media and fans compare eras all the time, I hardly think it's that much of an issue for me to compare a player's Brownlow season from only 7 years ago to today, is it?
You made a silly comparison. Cripps got 45 votes this year. Has nothing to do with Martin’s Brownlow year.

Nothing.

Jack Ginnivan 3 votes and that was the 3 against us.

Talk about taking the piss…

That was always going to happen.
He had a great game.

Premierships and Norm Smiths are won in finals, career possessions and votes are significantly skewed by games played, the Brownlow is an accolade for being the best in the season.

Pendles is a champion but he wouldn’t be top five all time of players to have missed out on Brownlows.

No worries mate I’ll leave you with it.

He was clearly in the conversation for BOG that night. I thought he was.

What’s a pisstake about giving the three to a performance like that?

I personally think it's ludicrous to suggest both Cripps and Daicos enjoyed better individual seasons than Dusty did in 2017. Both well deserving of top two this year but I'm shocked that they outpolled Dusty's 2017 quite comprehensively.

Tonight said to me that the umpires listen to commentators too much. Broadcasters market the game through the stars and the commentators are clearly listening and noticing the stars too much. Bit of a worry in terms of decision making. Nick got a vote on Queens BDay where he was tagged out of it, copped a knock and was subbed off ...

Fun fact: Nick Daicos in only his 3rd year has already polled 77 career Brownlow votes.

That currently puts him in the #12 position on the Collingwood Brownlow count tally.

Which is between the great Bobby Rose at #11 (after 10 seasons), and Peter Moore (who won one at Collingwood) at #14 (after 9 seasons at CFC)
Difficult to sustain across his career, but Daicos currently averages 1.18 votes per game.

To put that into perspective only Bunton (1.04) and Moss (0.95) have completed careers averaging above 0.90 votes and Cripps (0.92) is the only other current player averaging above 0.9.

Had an unbelievable year last year and didn’t win

Broke the vote record this year and didn’t win

He’ll easily be the greatest player of all time to never win a Brownlow Medal

Pendles probably is right now.
Fine with me. That will make him easily greater than Carey and Matthews.

He'll most likely win one at some stage though - probably more than 1.

Cuz taking the field against one player and stating it as fact. I’m just glad he didn’t say “literally” again.

What was a midfielders award is quickly becoming a star midfielders award.

Before 2009 only 5 players had won with more than 30 votes. Of the 16 players to win from 2009 onwards 10 have polled more than 30.

Swan set a new record with 34 in 2011, Dangerfield raised it one in 2017, Martin one further in 2018, Neale got 31 from 17 games in the covid shortened 2020 (equivalent to 40 in a full season), Wines matched Martin in 2021.

45 votes will take some beating, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone top it within the next decade.

Edit: remarkable that Herbie Matthews and Des Fothergill tied in 1940 setting the record at 32, which wasn’t equaled until Harvey in 1998 and surpassed by Swan.
There was an extra game this year. Having said this, say he got 42 votes. Still an incrediable effore.

Pendles probably is right now.

Only 3 of the top 10 Brownlow vote getters didn’t win a Brownlow.

Those 3 are:

Leigh Matthews with 202 votes
Joel Selwood with 214 votes
Scott Pendlebury with 221 votes

So yeah, you could mount an argument that Pendles is the greatest player not to win one.
