Analysis 2024 Brownlow medal - Our boy Nick

He was clearly in the conversation for BOG that night. I thought he was.

What’s a pisstake about giving the three to a performance like that?
He was clearly BOG no doubt.
We let that happen lol We had such a poor game that day, in the wet too. Hawks seem to find a way to do this to us for some reason. Year after year - Minus a game here or there.

But in positive news, we have the next Cripps in Ed Allan.
I will eat my IPAD if this happens. Sorry to say but Cripps is on another level. He was a very humble winner tonight kudos to him.
Nick had a great season and there was daylight between him and our next player in the votes.

Only 3 of the top 10 Brownlow vote getters didn’t win a Brownlow.

Those 3 are:

Leigh Matthews with 202 votes
Joel Selwood with 214 votes
Scott Pendlebury with 221 votes

So yeah, you could mount an argument that Pendles is the greatest player not to win one.
Selwood and Pendles have had fantastic consistent careers.

But guys like Carey and Matthews were considered the clear best in the league for a decent stretch of years and are in discussions for the greatest player of all time - a clear level above the greatness of Scott and Joel.

Since Fly took over we are 2 and 2 against Hawthorn.

The mere fact that he only scored 3 votes against us and no other votes.

My post has been slightly misinterpreted and can see how it was.

you need to get a better crystal ball, his one is better
I think he might have a concrete ball. He did say his assumptions were more concrete than Anzacs. I didn't understand it at the time as he seemed to pull a claim of Nick becoming the greatest to never win the brownoiw out of somewhere not concrete at all. But yeah a concrete ball makes sense

Final tally:

1. Patrick Cripps (Carl) = 45
2. Nick Daicos (Coll) = 38
3. Zak Butters (PA) = 29
4. Caleb Serong (Freo) = 28
5. Isaac Heeney (Syd) = 28 (ineligible)
6. Tom Green (GWS) = 27
7. Adam Treloar (WB) = 26
8. Errol Gulden (Syd) = 25
9. Matt Rowell (GC) = 25
10. Jai Newcombe (Haw) = 24

Slow start cost Daicos. Just 4 votes in his first 6 games, vs 11 votes in the first 6 games for Cripps.

Both finished the year with a remarkable 34 votes in their last 17 games.

A bit more analysis of Nick's incredible achievement tonight. .....second highest number of votes ever, longest run of consecutive vote-earning games ever, received votes in more games than the winner.

Plus, he managed this through a draw in which we only played the lowest ranked teams once.

He simply amazes me!!!!!

But Nick Daicos is brilliant and you’d think that he’s certain to win it one day.
Btw he barracked for Carlton as a kid. But I suspect that was only to give himself a playful point of difference from Peter and Josh.

Cripps was very deserving.
He is the full package and had an amazing year.

Seems a ripper guy too.

Clearly the vote givers like in and under types who draw the eye.

Cripps speech was great and clearly he went to work to get even better this year.

Hoping Nick can be inspired by this and keep improving figgerent parts of his game.

He is clearly good enough to get one eventually.

Cuz taking the field against one player and stating it as fact. I’m just glad he didn’t say “literally” again.
I'd literally throw something through the wall if they did.

Hang on, did Darcy Cameron not get a single vote?

Had an unbelievable year last year and didn’t win

Broke the vote record this year and didn’t win

He’ll easily be the greatest player of all time to never win a Brownlow Medal

That wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.

Often the Brownlow is a medal for the individual who has best carried the team on his shoulders.

The team needs to be good enough to win regularly, but not too good to have team-mates who take votes off you.
