The knock on smile being poor in the air isn't a huge worry for me. We are wanting him to be a contested beast who can win on the outside and hurt not be the next Jack Riewoldt.

I wouldn't say Cripps is a great overhead mark for his size and doesn't really matter.
Smillie actually creates a big headache when he moves forward considering his size.
He isn’t exactly a strong overhead mark, but he’s a very good contested mark.

He moved forward in the national championships final a couple of times and Tauru was struggling with Smillies strength. He’s also a beautiful shot for goal and a long boot.

Any big Bo Allan fans out there? Sounds like we are keen on him at 10/11 but looking at stats he isn't getting a lot of footy at WAFL level and far from dominating under 18s. Combined with some go home factor I'd prefer we go after Lindsay at this pick.
Xavier all the way

I’m a big fan and not concerned about the go home factor.
And It sounds like we are not concerned about taking multiple mids over the 190cm mark.
His athleticism, speed, strength are just too good a mix to ignore at that pick.
Although I am also a big fan of Berry and Lindsay, so if we were to go with either/both of them that’d be a close second to Bo

I'm not a heavy draft watcher or anything but sounds like we would be getting a great athlete we are trying to make a better footballer rather than just drafting the better midfielders who aren't as athletic. Understand it's forward looking and therefore potentially much higher pay off. Think this draft we really neee to nail some sure things inside that top 11.

Looks like the big powerful and not slow midfield is the aim after all lalor smilie allan I think jagga and Langford are not getting taken by us even if there at 10 just not the type Blair wants.

As always it's only when we get this close to the draft where journalists speak with recruiters more and more, that questions about players start to be asked publicly. Outside Ashcroft, every other player in the top 8 midfielders has question marks against them.

Lalor - can he reach his potential/injury concerns
FOS - does he have the right attitude/accumulation concerns
Smith - is he too small to mix it in the midfield full time/damaging enough
Draper - is there a go home factor/injury concerns
Langford - is his lack of pace too much to overcome
Smillie - can he use his size to dominate in the air away from the stoppage
Reid - is he quick enough & damaging enough

Do not in the slightest envy our recruiters heading into the draft. There is going to be no shortage of melting happening next Wednesday night when the perceived favourites don't get picked where we're all hoping they are.
Can George pull the boots back on ?
;

Gotta get best kpp this pic
simply do not subcribe to that theory.

if they are good enough you try and get them.

if your reaching or wait for the next draft or next opportunity to get quality

throwing away good picks for stretchy what ifs is expensive and costs premiership windows.

look at Geelong, got Hawkins(lucky) then got Cameron (trade)and hardly drafted for a KPP for iffy tall ones so did not waste a lot of draft picks that way

Get it out of your head.

North is not sliding back to pick 10.

It ain't happening regardless of how much you wish for it.

Unless Tigers give up 6 as part of the trade, the deal will be made with one of Crows, Aints or Dees.

Take it to the bank or bookmark it if that is your preference.

Who cares, don't want North's pick anyway.

Ruck strategy?
Forget Colina and OHB. Kosi, Balta and Miller can ruck. Won a flag with Balta as back up ruck.

IMO Ryan played his better football as genuine ruck in 2023. 2024 up fwd, he couldn't mark a football to save himself ~ lucky our smalls crumbed to his spilled marks. Vickery was a way better mark & better in front of goal.

We need a KPF/ruck to replace Kosi who's back up ruck work is quite good. Both Whitlocks instead of Dodson. They're taller than Nank anyhow.

Stuck with Ryan for 3 years I don't think we add Dodson
I think the fact we won a flag with just Nank and Balta speaks volumes to the role Nank played.

Samsons problem is that he hasn’t added much strength to his body. I’d say our strength and condition has really been a massive problem since the 20’ flag. He is still young enough to turn into something with a new program. Time will tell. Still think he is more a natural forward

Replace Kosi? Kosi is not a best 22 player, his position is not up to be replaced.

I could deal with both the Whitlocks, they could turn into serious weapons.

If not, you get Dodson and give him 3 years under Nank as a pure ruck and then you have an athletic big guy that can get around the ground like a midfielder, has developed under Nank and grown with the other players we draft.

Geelong’s drafting of picks inside 37 (I chose that number as they’ve had 3 x picks at 36-37) has been abysmal for over a decade - as in competition worst bad. One of their few hits was 200cm SDK, Shannon Neale looks pretty good and ruckman Conway looks promising.

2023 :
pick 11 : O’Sullivan
Pick 34 : Edwards

Too early, but trading 10 for 11 and 34 so Bombers could get Caddy looks like a real big error already.

2022:
Pick 7: Jyhe Clark.

Early days but pretty concerning. Ginbey and Phillipou chosen immediately after Clark.

2021:
Pick 24: Conway
Pick 25: Knevitt
Pick 32: Willis

Hmmmmm… concerning if Conway can’t get fit.

2020:
Pick 20: Holmes
Pick 33: Neale

Nice picks there.

2019:
Pick 16: Cooper Stephens
Pick 19: SDK

Stephens cast off to Hawks and no good. SDK a great pick.

2018:
Pick 15: Jordan Clark

Wasn’t much chop at Geelong but very good for Freo in 2024.

2017;
Pick 22: Fogarty
Pick 24: Tim Kelly
Pick 36: Constable

Kelly a great pick.

2016:
Pick 26: Parfitt (delist territory)

2014
Pick 10: Cockatoo

Horrible pick

2013:
Pick 16: Lang
Pick 36: Jansen

2012
Pick 16: Thurlow

2011:
Pick 32: Hamling
Pick 34: Kirsten

2010:
Pick 15: Schmedts
Pick23: C Guthrie
Pick 37: Horlin Smith

So in terms of ratings of top-37 picks for last 15 x years … 24 x picks:

A: 4
B: 1
C: 4
D: 5
F: 6
Too early: 4

So their KPP drafting has been by far their best with picks from first 2 x rounds of drafts.

Their later pick drafting, rookie picks, trades and father sons have been outstanding.

Their talent identification with decent picks has been an absolute abomination.
