What the **** are we going to bitch and moan about once the drafts are finished?

There will be endless discussions about how the players we didn't pick will be better than those that we did pick, just like every other year.

finishing last is worth more next year
And what makes you think that we'll finish last? If we are relatively injury free, especially with Lynch, and other bottom dwellers such as Norf, Essendon, West Coast get a couple of injuries like we did last year we could easily finish outside the bottom 4. If you were the Melbourne list manager would you give up 2 early picks in a very strong draft in the hope that you get 1 high pick next year?

who gives a toss.

we are in the business of winning premierships

it is all about the kids and the development before we start another run

Melbourne should be focussed on winning premierships to meaning how do they get around beating Brisbane, CFC, Gold Coast and others over the journey?

yeah if I was list manager for Melbourne i would knowing Trac and Oliver could be traded down the track despite them saying otherwise. Melbourne also need to look at their next run

Dusty has left, newsflash, RFC can't sell RFC to win premiership in 2025. RFC needs to sell RFC wins premiership in 2029 or before and the kids are the driver to get there

I wonder how much the change in points value for 2025 will impact the trading of future picks for slight upgrades in position in this years draft?

At this point I don't want to know who we take at pick 1 until we call it out on the night to be honest.
Any info now would just be a spoiler.

If it came out a week or more ago, different story.
I'm heavily considering avoiding this thread from tomorrow.
When the Sixers in the NBA used to be picking in the top 10 I would turn my phone off day of the draft and watch it spoiler free. Love it. Just don’t think I can with the Tiges

Not sure that you're thinking this through Magic!!!

If Melbourne are thinking Premierships now then they should be taking their 2 draft picks now while Gawn, May, Oliver and Trac still have something left.

We have plenty of draft picks this year so thinking of the future we should take lots this year and get as many good one's next year as well. We are better off trading a couple of later picks into next year as we have a few years to cultivate our next Premiership team.

Very confusing reply, but not a surprising one.

Final version of my mock draft (subject to slight changes ;)); first 2 rounds

We can only take 6 picks in the draft. We're using 1 to upgrade Young to the senior list, and 1 to redraft Colina as a rookie (I don't want us to, but it seems like we don't have another Cat B exception)

All trades are based on draft positions at the time of the trade

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st round:

1. Sam Lalor - Richmond

Adelaide trade 3 x F3 (Ade, Mel, GWS) to Sydney for 1 x F2 (Syd) + 1 x F3 (Syd)
North trade 2 to Adelaide for 4 + F2 (Syd)

2. Jagga Smith - Adelaide
3. Levi Ashcroft - Brisbane
4. Finn O'Sullivan - Carlton
5. Alix Tauru - North Melbourne
6. Harvey Langford - Melbourne
7. Josh Smillie - Richmond
8. Leo Lombard - Gold Coast
9. Sid Draper - St.Kilda
10. Harry Armstrong - St.Kilda
11. Isaac Kako - Essendon
12. Murphy Reid - Melbourne
13. Jack Whitlock - Richmond

West Coast trade 15 + F2 (Haw) to Richmond for 14

14. Bo Allan - West Coast
15. Xavier Lindsay - Richmond

Port Adelaide trade 16 + 30 to GWS for 19 + 24

16. Taj Hotton - GWS
17. Joe Berry - Fremantle
18. Sam Marshall - Brisbane
19. Tobie Travaglia - GWS
20. Jobe Shanahan - Port Adelaide
21. Harry Oliver - Bulldogs
22. Matt Whitlock - Richmond
23. Jesse Dattoli - Sydney

Essendon trade 40 + F1 (Ess) to Richmond for pick 24 + F5

24. Jonty Faull - Essendon
25. Cooper Hynes - Port Adelaide
26. James Barrat - Sydney

St Kilda trade F1 + F3 to Richmond for pick 27 + F4

27. Alex Dodson - St.Kilda

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2nd round:

North Melbourne trade F1 + F3 to Richmond for pick 28 + F2 (Haw)

28. Luke Trainor - North Melbourne
29. Ollie Hannaford - Bulldogs
30. Kayle Gerreyn - West Coast
31. Tom Gross - GWS
32. Hamish Davis - Fremantle
33. Angus Clarke - St.Kilda

36. Christian Moraes - Port Adelaide
37. Archer Day-Wicks - GWS
38. Noah Mraz - Carlton
39. Ben Camporeale - Carlton
40. Lachie Jacques/Sam Davidson/Jasper Alger - Richmond

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tigers finish with:

If what you say is true why would Geelong players at a party before the end the trade week say Oliver is coming to Geelong ,with AFL players from other clubs in attendance, according to one of my informants?

On top of that Trac, it was reported was not happy with club direction. Now given the rise of Brisbane with Ashcroft's blooming not to mention Wilmot etc.. and others, how does Melbourne win a premiership in 2025 with a few leaving albeit them picking up a good winger recently?? Alex Neale Bullen, James Harmes, James Jordan all good, not superstars but handy depth. Add to that Luke Jackson, Toby Bedford and Jayden Hunt from their premiership squad at a time they where more prepped versus the opposition they faced which have now only improved. Even if Melbourne rise again, very difficult to do it straight away virtually on the run, particularly to win the lot against opposition squads more prepped for the now and improving

If were tossing up between FOS and Lalor pick 1, there's not a chance we pass him up at 6/7.

But I do want Smillie too.
Latest whispers has crom moving up to secure Draper and the flow on could be massive.

1- Lalor (Rich)
2- Ashcroft (Bris)*
3- Draper (Adel)
4- Jagga (Carl)
5- Tauru (Norf)
6- Langford (Dees)
7- FOS (Rich)
8- Lombard (GCS)*
9- Reid (Saints)
10- Lindsay (Saints)
11- Armstrong (Dees)
12- Smillie (Rich)
13- J Whitlock (Rich)

14- Kako (Ess)*
15- Allen (WCE)
16- Travaglia (Port)
17- Berry (Freo)
18- Hotton (GWS)
19- Shanahan (GWS)
20- Hannaford (Dogs)
21- M Whitlock (Rich)
22- Trainor (Syd)
23- Dattoli (Rich)
24- Hynes (GWS)
25- Faull (Syd)
26- Oliver (Rich)

I just can't see Smillie lasting to 12.

Also Young’s elevation from the Rookie list doesn’t chew up a draft pick anymore just a list spot so we still have 8 picks. 1,6,10,11,18,20,23,24
