AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Anyone who's primary position has been in the defensive 50 should be avoided and ruled out completely with the first three picks, drafting defenders is generally a waste of a pick with everything factored in. If a player has talent you can easily turn them into a defender and in junior footy the players with the least amount of talent generally play in the backline.
Provided we take someone with pace at 25 I’d be very happy to pick him.Apparently Murphy Reid will fall to our pick. Sydney teams think he will be a flight risk if taken out of vic.
Other clubs not sure if he is more of a James Aish/Lewis Taylor type or whether he has the ability to develop an inside game and play midfield.
What do the draft watchers here think of him?
Is he any good? I have zero knowledge of the draft. The above just comes from a mate at GWSProvided we take someone with pace at 25 I’d be very happy to pick him.

In his most recent rankings, Cal Twomey rated him the #5 player in the draft. Rookie me (AFL draft central) rank him #3.Is he any good? I have zero knowledge of the draft. The above just comes from a mate at GWS
Speed of mind is much more important then speed of foot in most cases. To me Murphy Reid is Caleb Daniel but a step faster and tall enough to not be a complete liability in the air or in contested situations. He makes things happen and doesn't waste possessions.
I think there is absolutely a spot for him in our team and I would be wrapped if he lasted to our pick.
Also I think his lack of pace is overstated. He evades and runs away from opponents frequently and is so balanced that he can pull of dangerous kicks at top speed which IMO is more beneficial than bursting away and spraying kicks like Bailey Smith.
Honestly, a good chance we get none of them as well. Feels like pick 17 is in a slightly awkward spot. We could just miss out on Berry, Reid, Hotton. Whilst it is a slight reach for say, Hannaford. The other players we have been linked to at 17 don't seem to be quite popular on here.In his most recent rankings, Cal Twomey rated him the #5 player in the draft. Twomey rates his football IQ (he sees things others don't), evasiveness and creative disposal.
Just now on Gettable, Twomey basically ran through the first round, reckons we take whoever slides of Reid, Berry, Hotton (in that order).
Agreed. But defensively, speed by foot is a big thing, and to create separation from opponents to create an option for the team mate in possession. That is something we do lack.Speed of mind is much more important then speed of foot in most cases.
My concern with Reid is that we just moved on MacRae and Daniel because they didn't have the transition speed to play outside roles and could be liabilities defensively. To me Murphy Reid is Caleb Daniel but a step faster and tall enough to not be a complete liability in the air or in contested situations. He nearly pipped 3 seconds in 20m sprint. That’s not slow.My concern with Reid is that we just moved on MacRae and Daniel because they didn't have the transition speed to play outside roles and could be liabilities defensively.
I wouldn't want to replace them with someone who has similar deficiencies, especially when our team can struggle with the defensive side of the game
Ed Richards is an upgrade, this will be his first pre-season as a mid don’t forgetWho’s the closest to Baz type player that could be around our pick? Hes the one we need to replace.
Or we could welcome him with open armsSo we’re all agreed we will be disappointed if we take Dattoli with our first?
