FYI

Will add a 2024 NAB Draft & Trade tracker thread, stickied.

Tag me when we have a confirmed trade/draft and I will update the thread accordingly

Thing is, clubs know we won't draft those key fwds, so they wouldn't bother trading with us.

They aren't trading up to get in front of us though, they are trading up to get in front of West Coast, St. Kilda, Port, Freo, Hawks etc all who could easily take one of Shanahan or Whitlock. Also therefore blocking any of there competitors trading up to that slot ahead of them too. Similar to why The Eagles trading down one spot to Port, the Power knew the Eagles weren't taking Berry, but couldn't guarantee Freo or someone else wasn't going to trade up in front of them to swipe him too.

With our next two picks I think we will take a combination of Clarke, Davis, Moraes and Ough, with Clarke and Moraes arguably the best fits.

Hopefully we take a couple of late swings as well - someone with real speed like Unwin or Hayes. Would like to trade back in with a future 2nd or 3rd for Davidson. Will be absolutely beside myself if Geelong take him.

Pretty exciting night 2 coming up with 2 of the first 4 picks. A lot of guys we've been linked to still on the board; Moraes, Clarke, Davidson, Gross, Ough, Alger.

All of the above make some sense. I'd probably have Clarke and Alger as my preferred.

Would we take another 4 picks though?

I’d be happy taking Barrat with our next pick, then one of whoever is still there from Ough/Moraes/Clarke.

KPD’s take time & we need one in the pipeline developing, when I first read up on Barrat a few months ago he ticked all the boxes really.
To my way of thinking, we already have 2 first rounders as kpds in development (Busslinger and Croft) as well as O'Donnell as a young developing tall defender. That's enough for mine.

We need speed and Moraes and Boxsall are both elite runners. Moraes also plays on the wing as a position of need for us.
I’m not as against Moraes as others he has a lot of the assets we need being an elite runner. I think the main issue raised about him is his decision making with ball. But that can be worked on.

Man, really wanted Angrove or Hannaford with one of our early second round picks. Honestly don't see any other small pacy forward, fwd/mid types that appeal to me. Most are marking types, as some have pointed out already, we need crumbing, and two way impact types.

Davis and Ough whilst talented, would be making us even taller across the ground and more top heavy. Which is why I think we will probably go for smaller types with the next two picks.

We are still in a great position to land two quality players early in the second round. Makes me wish we had a third pick in the second as well.

That's purely what I'm hoping for but wouldn't be suprised if we took anywhere between 2-4 more depending who was available.

Isn’t Davis quite similar to Hynes? Can’t see us taking both.
I see Davis as a tall wing at the next level. The biggest difference between he and hynes at this point is endurance.
Hynes also tends to get his mark via body work and strength often marking on the chest where as Davis almost always marks the ball at the highest point.

Mick Ablett had enough work done on his face??

The hope from here would be that the Tigers use their first pick tonight and teams come hard for our pick 29.

Get a great trade outcome then take whoever we want most at 31.
Would likely mean taking future picks. Not sure the club would want to trade out of this year again. We had 4 solid picks yesterday, we’d likely been down to just 2.

And given next years draft is rumored to be not as deep, and even more compromised. Many second round picks could find themselves deep in the 30s-40s. I am not sure future picks are as attractive as loading up in this years.

There's no one I'm enamored with at our upcoming picks expected to be drafted in that range. They are essentially all KPP.

I'd be more than happy to trade one of them to move back a handful of spots and pick up an extra selection next year (which makes the Lions trade reasonably pointless).
