FYI

Will add a 2024 NAB Draft & Trade tracker thread, stickied.

Tag me when we have a confirmed trade/draft and I will update the thread accordingly

I like the way we ****ed over Essendon not taking their pick swap offer, who then went on to pick the ruck Cats wanted, so we ****ed them over too. Doggies do hold a grudge, and don’t dispense favours to those who don’t play trade fairly.
I don't know, we did a couple of pick swaps with Brisbane, you'd imagine if we held grudges we'd have one against them

Gab Stumpf still without a home, hopefully he is one of our train on players.

Would love him on the list developing in the VFL.

Will we keep the spot open for the msd next year?
I don't think there are any decent DFAs about.
I think that's a strong possibility.
Dennis, Szybkowski, Hargrave and Toner are the ones I'd want to offer train on spots to.

Only state league ruckman should be a part of the train on players. Give them a crack at English, if any of them can out point him in the ruck put them on the list.

It would be pointless having a battler who missed the draft try out who’d be .1% chance of ever helping the team, as opposed to moving Lobb who would of won the b&f if he’d spent all year back or Darcy who could be the best forward at the club next year.

Reading up on Clancy Dennis and like the sound of him as a train on player 195 cm key defender. We definitely need more of them developing on the list imo. All Australian u18 chb
What’s the knock on him
He’s got his surname and his given name back to front.

Szybkowski was unlucky to miss the draft, did he have a good year in the VFL?
Not Fantastic to be honest but played for a struggling Casey team. I'd mainly want him as a train on player for another tough nut to put the others through there paces and hopefully get him across to Footscray to take the pressure off our new developing mids. Obviously best case is he impresses and gets a AFL spot.

Every State League Ruckman will out point English in the ruck and probably the majority of rovers, centres, forwards and backs could as well

I’m not sure he is 195cm, I’ve seen him listed as 192cm before

He plays very close to his direct opponent but was very hard at the ball and could take a grab

I think he’s very much the old traditional key defender, so that certainly is against him especially in the modern game

Not sure what his athletic testing was like either but from watching him he certainly can jump and I’ve seen him playing both taller and smaller opponents

If his athletic ability was good and he interviewed well, I see no other reason why he wouldn’t get looked at by someone

Wasn’t sure where to ask this. Is Ryley sanders not eligible for the rising star next year ? Just having a look at the odds and couldn’t find he’s name .

No sanders has played 14 games

Who is eligible for the AFL Rising Star 2024?

The AFL Rising Star is an annual award presented by the AFL to recognise and celebrate the most outstanding young talent in the league. Eligible players must be under the age of 21 and have played fewer than 10 AFL games at the beginning of the season

That is a real shame . Poor kid didn’t even get a nomination this year and I reckon he would be right up there next year.

This is the sort of player that benefits from these “second look” type opportunities. Not every youngster is physically and mentally ready to launch into an AFL career and to have displayed his full credentials at age 17.

Some need another year or three. It’s particularly the case with talls. And defenders too because they aren’t as exciting to watch as goal scoring forwards, so they can slip under the radar. Or people simply downplay defensive skills on the assumption that any decent player can acquire them.

There are lots of good examples but Dane Rampe comes quickly to mind. He’s shorter (187) but can play tall. Took a while to find his feet and was passed over more than once IIRC but has ended up an AA and a Swans captain.
