Geelong played 2 2022 finalists in the first 8 games of their premiership defence.

Collingwood will play 6 2023 finalists in the first 8 games of their premiership defence. One of those two non-finalists is in Gather Round.

It mostly evens out in the end. We will play 11 games against the finalists from 2023, same as Geelong did from the year before.

We play all our games against the best teams from 2023 at the start and end of the season. 6 from the first 8 and then the last 4 rounds.

In-between, after playing Carlton in Round 8 we have only 1 game against a 2023 finalist in the next 12 rounds.

I don't get why it is a disadvantage to be playing Doggies at Marvel.
Because it is our home game in which we are forced to play it at a venue that is our opponent’s home ground, basically losing any “home ground” advantage. Now, we all know that we have to play 2 home games at Docklands but it sure as hell shouldn’t be against tenant clubs who play there much more regularly and are therefore quite familiar with it. It negates any benefit, real or perceived - our performance there over the journey probably demonstrates that the advantage/disadvantage is on the real side of the ledger.

So you'd rather play, for example, the Lions there instead?

I remember all the carry on this year about playing them there & how Marvel was more of an advantage to them than us...and they did beat us there.

Saints are a tenant of Marvel, yet we're playing them at our home ground for their home match.

I reckon Melbourne and Brisbane, who we play twice, could drop off a bit, but then so could we.
Bring on 2024! Can't wait.

Dees yes, Lions no. They start as Premiership faves in my book. Their recent and incoming academy recruits are awesome and they’ve lost nobody other than Rich and Gunston, neither of whom featured in their finals campaign.

Other than Dees, all of our double-up opponents will bee on the rise in 2024. Tough draw.

Pies FIXTure ia the same every year

14 MCG games
3 Marvel games
5 games outside vic
+ gather round

In 2023
14 MCG games, just 4 are against non vic teams
3 Marvel, "home" against Dogs
5 games outside vic, 4 in NSW and QLD and just 1 trip to Perth
+ gather round v Hawks

Being premier we have tough double up games - Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Carlton - and the usual Ess dbl who will expect to improve and the "easy" dbl is Hawthorn a team we always struggle against.

Good commercial FIXture, but tough onfield.

When was the last time we played the wooden spoon team twice?

Some will rise and some will fall.

Carlton receives more prime time games than us again, despite us being the reigning premiers.I saw a spokesman for the AFL saying that this was because of Carlton’s improved form in the second half of the season this year. But in reality this happens every year,no matter where they are on the ladder. Why doesn’t the AFL just admit that they love Carlton and be done with it?😝

We should get a lot after round 15 by looking at our draw. Cats, tigers, blues, Essendon, Sydney brisbane, hawks and dees games could all have a prime time fixture

Let's hope they don't live up to all the expectations...and it's all on prime time for everyone to see 😉
