By all reports his preseason tank is putting to shame all but 2-3 other North players.

I definitely think he goes up another gear, but the main question mark in my mind (from SC perspective, not as a North fan) is how much time he will spend at half-forward.

On another topic...

Jackson vs Dusty: anyone got strong opinions? I originally went with LJ, thought the DPP would be pretty handy. But now the Richmond subforum is awash with reports about Martin being in career best condition, smashing PBs all over the place. And the Dockers fans are all talking up what a revelation Young has been in the stoppages. All this makes me more pessimistic about the prospect of serious Jackson midfield time. It also got me thinking about how LJ might be slightly overpriced due to Darcy's injury in 2023.

To me
Jackson justifies his price by being reliable ruck cover. Also if Freo is good then that should lead to him getting more goals and raise his ceiling

Dusty is a stay away. New coach is wait and see for me. Don’t think it will hurt me too much to get him later. Richmond will be awful this year

If wacko Jacko was same price as someone like Flanders etc ...go with the dpp ruck cover ..
Pending if any R3 are going to play enough games .

At least with the forward line that should some different set ups .
Ruck cover over rated with 36 trades imo. At least early in the season.

I feel like we say that every year and then it’s week 18 and we have no trades after having wasted 5 on rucks
Yeah I'm pretty reluctant to go without some form of ruck cover to start the season, hoping that one of the R3 options are good enough for a round or two of cover if need be

This year it will be handy for the early byes for those with Gawndy. Not enthused with him, nor even Macrae but the cupboard is bare.

In the early weeks, "hope springs eternal" and everyone is jockying for a high position. Not having ruck cover could be costly as you are fielding at best 21. Also in the forwards this year there will be a reasonable chance of fielding six, even missing Jackson or Flanders. Cadman is not going to score 20 every week.

What a lot of people miss with the ruck cover scenario is that you're bringing on your forward bench player to cover the player moving to the ruck.

How is he going in the preseason?

IMO he couldn't have gone to a worse team (supercoach wise), with all of the top level small forwards you already have. Where does he fit?

Hes not a small fwd hes a wingman essentially hes the isaac smith replacement. Yes we have other competition for the mid and wing spots as we have some good kids coming through (clark knevitt and dempsey just to name a few) but geelong like metres gained wingers and hes that to a T and we have a history of playing mature agers straight up (stewart pods menegola atkins close etc etc all the way back to taylor egan et al). We went early on him to stop freo etc as we had a plan for him. Stewart said the other day he is training very well. I expect he gets a r1 game and if he brings his 2023 form he will be too hard to drop after that.

is he likely to be a fieldable option in your opinion?

the only high priced forwards i like are macrae and flanders. midprice options like billings / jordon / harmes all have various questions over role and whether they actually start in their teams b22, with billings probably the most likely of the 3. if mannagh can hold down f6 it would go a long way in preventing starting a more speculative player in the forward line.

Billings on my radar too. Luckily we get to see how he goes (if at all) in round 0.

Have to assume Piggy doesn't start the season, so there might be room for him somewhere.

I think he definitely plays r1 ala kelly and i think he stays there. Scoring is harder to rate as it depends on what gamestyle we use and how ac friendly it is. But i dont see him averaging 35 put it that way, he could score very well given geelongs history. And i like mids that can kick goals like he can as they tend to score well. So at worst hes a good bench cash cow imo at best if he comes off hes an M8/F6 til late season.

Are you considering Dempsey, or is his past scoring too modest?

(And while I’ve got you… Clark and Stevens..?)

So in terms of blokes in that mid-range bracket to pump and dump:
Tom 'People's Prince'. Lynch
Jack 'once more with feeling' Gunston
Dev 'For ****' s sake, Fagasaurus, put me in the guts and let me cook' Robertson
Jack Billings with the Dees' exits and Clarry drama
James Harmes blue collar, but with B Smith put, might be there or thereabouts
James Jordin a touch unclear given Swans' depth and Tay Adams pickup

They the ones? Anyone else?

Possibly Fisher, depending on role

Lots of key forwards

Peter” 2M Peter” Wright 350k has been a 500k key forward before once if you believe Essendon is decent this year they have a hard start but it softens mid year around the byes.

Jamarra UH - 330k year 3 breakout should be able to make 150k with a few bags in a row.

McDonald - Swans, no Buddy and hopefully a better midfield getting him looks.

Riley thilthorpe - supposedly getting more ruck time

Comben - if he’s a KPD at north

Joel Jeffery - just got a 4 year deal was a good HB in the VFL. Could be one to watch as a HB/wing

Bailey Humphrey

Cam Mackenzie - hawks - if he gets a midfield role.
