Lots of key forwards

Peter” 2M Peter” Wright 350k has been a 500k key forward before once if you believe Essendon is decent this year they have a hard start but it softens mid year around the byes.

Jamarra UH - 330k year 3 breakout should be able to make 150k with a few bags in a row.

McDonald - Swans, no Buddy and hopefully a better midfield getting him looks.

Riley thilthorpe - supposedly getting more ruck time

Comben - if he’s a KPD at north

Joel Jeffery - just got a 4 year deal was a good HB in the VFL. Could be one to watch as a HB/wing

Bailey Humphrey

Cam Mackenzie - hawks - if he gets a midfield role.
Most of them, if they were 50-75k cheaper you'd take the risk imo. Don't see the upside with most (accepting they could all easily improve on their starting price).

upside is about role changes and the classic KPF roller coaster for some. Not sure I’d want to start more then one but I would be interested in rolling the dice on one of them

Wouldn't start any of them unless there are no viable rookies.

As an example, Cadman starting at $127k will make more than Humpa at $330k. He only needs to go at 50 and have one spike game to make close to $150k.

If you start any forwards in the $300k's this year it's because you see them as a keeper. If they make enough to be a decent cash cow they will be averaging enough to be F6 this year and you hold. Fisher for example, if you start him you're holding at least until his bye or it's a failed pick.

Understand why people would be skeptical about Comben after his injuries and his poor SC scoring as a fwd in 2023.

But if there’s one thing I’m confident of, it’s that the ball will spend a fair bit of time in North’s back half in 2024.

Priced at 227k as an intercepting key defender with basically no positional competition until at least Logue comes back, Comben is value.

In any case, all will be revealed in the PS games.

I disagree with this. I think any player 350 and under can be a rookie/cash cow if they can make 100-150k and get me points on field and 1 trade to a real premo or 2 trades to an Uber I’m happy

More trades = more cash generation. Normally it takes about 13.5 million to finish a team so that makes par about 100-150k a trade depending on sideswaps and corrections

Comben ad McDonald are good shouts, Comben is supposedly getting a run down back.
Needs some luck with injuries first and foremost, though 🤞

True, if he is playing down back, he is a good option.
If he is playing across half-forward, probably not.
The thing about the forwards this year is that they offer a little ray of sunshine, by that I mean that the base average for a Fwd premo is around 90, I'm only running Macca at F1 so the other spots should be easier to fill than Mid or Def possies.

Are you considering Dempsey, or is his past scoring too modest?

(And while I’ve got you… Clark and Stevens..?)

I think mannagh is more a lock and as mentioned we almost never take mature agers (besides rucks which is different as you need backup rucks) without a specific role for them to slot into so i think hes in.

Clark people inside the club very much rate in particular for his leadership i think he will play a lot of games if fit even if its off half back initially to ease him in.

Dempsey is a good shout hes been absolutely dominating vfl and its probably at the stage where we have to play him or another club will poach him. Hes improved his endurance significantly. The issue he has (that clark and mannagh dont have as they can play mid or hb) is that hes mainly a hff and thats our strongest line so its about a spot opening up. That said if rohan keeps getting injured like this year he might get in-id watch the pre season games to see what line he plays on.

Stevens is training really well has lost a few kgs looks much less puppy fat now. I think hes ready to play now but his lack of speed and over the ground running (though its improving) might count against him when battling these other guys for the last 2 spots. But if he plays i think he will score really well. Selfishly from sc i hope we dont play him at all this year so hes at 123k for next year (we have a lot of retirements at the end of 2024).

So in terms of blokes in that mid-range bracket to pump and dump:
Tom 'People's Prince'. Lynch
Jack 'once more with feeling' Gunston
Dev 'For *' s sake, Fagasaurus, put me in the guts and let me cook' Robertson
Jack Billings with the Dees' exits and Clarry drama
James Harmes blue collar, but with B Smith put, might be there or thereabouts
James Jordin a touch unclear given Swans' depth and Tay Adams pickup

They the ones? Anyone else?

I think billings is the best from that lot most likely to get games and a sc friendly role.

Great post thanks.

Geelong look to have a few good SC rookie prospects this year. Are they likely to get a run in the side, or is Geelong still in "win now" mode?

Last year is an anomaly in the sense we had so many injuries you cant read much into selection.

But in years prior scott has shown that he will rest and rotate vets but also that he will pick at least 2 or 3 kids each year to bring into the side as regulars and leave vets in the vfl to accomodate it. Last year it was bruhn and henry (and would have been clark too if he was fit) and the year before it was sdk and zurhrie and stengle etc. Weve seen guys like dahl and higgins and menegola and a few others play vfl so that can happen (bews went to vfl last year and i doubt he would have come back except we got a lot of late season injuries) I think some older guys might get the first 3 or 4 games but if they arent performing he will vfl them for the year and focus on youth. But it is hard to know as i could see us being top 4 or bottom 6 so its hard to predict.

If i had to guess i would say by mid season smith (ret) tuohy bews and rohan will go out and be replaced by mannagh knevitt clark and dempsey. I can see all those 4 as ready to play 22 games. We have other older players who i can see as being in danger unless they lift like stanley and kolo but those are the 4 most likely to drop out. I think this is stanleys last year and they rate conway so he probably plays 8-10 games as a succession plan (as he doesnt have the fitness for a full year). I think he will get rested every 3-4 weeks so not sc relevant unless stanley is injured like this year (then he plays a block of 8 straight as we have no one else)

Mullin (who our coaches rate and we have a history of fast tracking the irish guys-he could be a contender for bews spot)
Lawson humphries-i have heard he is really impressing on the track and with wafl experience could be ready-we need a running defender (but knevitt is probablt further ahead in the queue)
Are other players to watch for sc along with stevens
Jeka is probably the other interesting one-henry has a history of non durability and we are wedded to a 3 kpd setup so any injury to a tall back and hes likely straight in which is why he was rookied (its possible we could push neale forward and ollie henry back instead but i think we would be reluctant to move ollie). I wouldnt take him initially but id have him on my watchlist during PS games.

Interesting start to the Coaches Panel 50 relevant players. Connor MacDonald.
I tried that pod last year, but it's too scatter gun for me. They talk about all 3 formats + draft. Don't go into enough depth on SC for my liking.

MacDonald $381k Fwd only in SC. Doesn't have a clear role yet. Seems the very definition of a risky mid price pick.

I quite like that pod but get your point . Playing two formats last year for the first time in ages trying to remember and assess players from different scoring structures, reckon it led to poor decision making .

Yeah mate agree. I tried quite a few pods last year, you get talked into bad picks I think. Just going to stick to a couple this year, try to cut down on the noise a bit.

Can't remember which one it was but one bloke was frothing a pick that he had in a dream 🤣

Which ones you sticking with? I have 5 or 6 saved on the phone and I swear all their voices sounded the same by late in the season 😀

For 2 years I went with my gut and ignored everyone and finished Overall 338 & 143 then last year I listened to a few "experts" and finished 20,000:moustache:

This !!!

Applied to me as well …. trust your own gut and intuition

Just Dr Supercoach and the FTTV boys. Just the public feeds, can't justify paying $120NZ a year for podcasts (DRSC).

Who do you like the best?
Yeah I’m not paying for SC advice when some of the best is right here for free.

Doctor Supercoach and FFTV probably main ones I listen to too, but similar others are SC Edge and SC Insider, all pretty good.

comben gives me liam jones 2023 vibes as a pick, will also be starting around the same price point as jones. more of an injury history than jones and not yet shown to be a competent defender at afl level either. gets asked to play more accountable for a few games and it can really kill their scoring and cash generation

sam darcy could probably get a similar role if settled into the backline at footscray for 100k~ less and would be much more appealing given that price difference imo. still not a rookie i would really be overly thrilled at starting tbh.

i find forums / discord servers a lot better for advice.... can lay your thoughts out and have peers critique / validate the way you are looking at going. helps to challenge your own biases a lot more than listening to a pod

Managed to sneak Billings into F4, but probably need a playing 102ker somewhere for it to work out.

Billing went before we Bont at draft night ..

Ones 725K and the most expensive player .
The other is a dirty mid pricer traded to a new to club using food stamps to make ends meat.
