I was just thinking exactly that.I am trying to remember when Buddy left us for the Swans, did he attend our Best and Fairest?
Earlier this year I was optimistic the cliff was finally here - the losing streak after the 7-0 start looked very ominous.I got torched around here a few years ago for not buying into the cliff is coming narrative. As long as they keep doing this sort of thing, in a very even competition, they unfortunately will still be there abouts.
Add in Reid in a year or 2 and the cycle continues.
Yep that and not letting him run through the banner with his kid/s will be his last memories of that stain of a club
If they had valued him at the start of the contract negotiations they may never of lost him.
Only increased his wage after we came to the party. One way of telling someone you do not rate them as a player.
They’re going to be sh*t forever
I don’t see how the Cats have the draft capital (or players) to get Oliver and Smith.
Says everything about the Saints. Pathetic.
Are you saying Geelong is an old wooden ship?Feel like Geelong is testing the concept of the Ship of Theseus
In the need to replace their ageing champions, many of which are just genuinely good blokes - with a constant supply of players with questionable attitudes - do they eventually hit a tipping point, where their culture just sinks.
Scott seems to be amazing at bringing players back to their best and focusing them, but just like in any workplace, if you pollute the pool enough, it just becomes a swamp.
Adding Clarry and Baz, with clear question marks on their approach to certain things, just feels like it tips the weights even further.

It's on Saturday and FA opens 9AM friday, so he will officially be a Hawthorn player by then.Hope we see battle at our b&f if thats a possibility lol
Yeah, I should caveat it and say that I don't seen them as a dominant force like times of old. I think we'll have them covered next year. They still have strong vulnerabilities, even if they pull these trades off. But with their home ground advantage, Chris Scott at the helm and their continued development of talent, I think they'll continue to be there abouts. Given how even the comp is, that might be all they need.Earlier this year I was optimistic the cliff was finally here - the losing streak after the 7-0 start looked very ominous.
But the strong late season form and finals wasn't driven by the same old faces - Hawkins didn't play, Stewart's influence was very reduced, even danger was in and out of games.
They have some good youth plus some hardened and experienced bodies. I can see Smith as a pure dynamic mid & A grade Oliver would be a great addition. Unfortunately they arent going anywhere.
Yeah I'm not sure that Oliver moving to Shepparton by the Sea is great for him personally but we know that the Cats are good at sweeping that stuff under the carpet.Gee a fair bit of jumping at shadows here .
If Geelong land both Smith and Oliver I think it's very risky for their team culture.
Yes gun players but Oliver has the maturity of a 13 yo and Smith's major issue with Beveridge was not being played where he wanted.
Not sure Scott will be too accommodating of that if the performance isn't there.
They'll also need to add to their squad of player minders out and about .
And we don't need Geelong to fall off a cliff , we just need to be better then them. We should be confident that part is coming .
YikesOliver was overtly on the gear Saturday night.
Good luck to Geelong, they’ll need it.
The only way Melbourne would push Oliver out is if they do not think he can be rehabilitated. He is one of the best mids in town when his head is right and would leave a massive hole at the Dee's. Particularly with ??? over PetraccaThat’s a great deal for everyone involved.
Except Melbourne and the doggies.
I don't know what Melbourne will or won't do, but there's a good chance that a lot of teams - like Richmond - will see lots of opportunity in taking advantage of a strong draft shortly before Tassie is introduced. The only way Melbourne would push Oliver out is if they do not think he can be rehabilitated. So, if Melbourne want him out, buyer beware.
Of course, Oliver may wish for a fresh start as a path to get himself right. What to believe?
That would be 24 caratHope we see battle at our b&f if thats a possibility lol
It's a good point, I wonder how Michito was feeling watching that from the presBit rich of the Saints to carry on about academies given the success they've had from their NGA.
3rd in the league for Most amount of AFL games played from players from NGA, only behind Collingwood and Freo.
Yep, has cleared Stkilda from his thoughts so I don't really think he's overly pissed with not getting an invite. It reaffirms to himself he made the right decision as good clubs don't carry on like sooky children when they don't get there way.Battle was at Waverley today. He’s moved on
It's best to not bring the cliff is coming unless there's genuine evidence it actually is from now on. In my mind they will play finals every year or thereabouts so that way I'm not surprised how they are tracking or disappointed.Same, people have carried on about the cliff for years. And year after year they somehow remain competitive.
For the first time I actually allowed myself to believe the cliff had arrived during their patch in the middle of the year, but they turned it around, again.
