Why would Austin accede to his request?

12 months ago Camporeale boys were highly rated and we loaded up on picks in the 60's to ensure we could bid match.

Fast forward to today and we've got three picks in the 60's we probably don't need anymore.

Hanging onto Jack Martin just to get another one seems pointless.

Having a late 3rd/4th round pick so we can on trade to 2025 and 2026 to match future bids.

Jack Martin ASKED to be delisted and Austin agreed to it despite knowing other clubs are interested, so he does have some, albeit very little, trade value.

Why would Austin accede to his request?
Some chance of goodwill at a destination club. If we are using a club in negotiation for (say Houston) we may get some consideration for giving SSP (rookie) access to Martin. So many permutations these days.

Or it simply could be his body is as bad as it seems…

Frustrating that we all accept Ben is going to be bid late and cost a token pick. Other than questions raised on his kicking, the kid was dominant in both club and rep football.

Do not under estimate 6 state league U18 games for 6 three vote games and multiple BOG’s in Futures and interstate games. I am sure Austin is not “banking” on a third round or even late second bid.

Isn't he out of contract? He wants to go... What am I missing? We can't force someone to sign a contract right
Martin is a weird one, don’t see how rationally there’s interest, but we cut him for nothing.
Something is better than nothing even if it’s 4th round.
Think the “interest” line could be a favor to his manager.
Again. Same question. What something? This season was the last on his contract? Why would he sign another one.

Is there some Freo player that both we and Freo might be looking at in a trade? If so, maybe part of a goodwill exercise in that regard...?

Someone has mooted a multi club scenario to me involving us offering pick 11 and through multi club scenarios bringing us a later first back. Not my rumour to share and I am sure plenty to play out even if has some credence. If it comes to fruition we would get a pick, not a player.

Yeah nah....

Why would we want another All Australian ????

Agree Another All Australian is not essential because
1. No Guarantee he is All Australian Next Year
2. Long Contract and borderline veteran
3. Squeezes salary Cap
4. Doesn't fix transition issues with 1 player. It is as much system
5. He is a flanker, which are a dime a dozen, developed internally
6. Save the big money for mids and key positions
7. Carlton does not have a high strike rate on this stuff

Don’t know why we can’t in these situations. He made great money for little in return and at least could let us see if we can get just a token future 4th rounder at least.

Carlton too often the last few years just too nice in the list management side of things.

There is a gaping hole in defence.

Please fill it Austin. And no, i don't want another flaky soft scared floater type from your old club.

Just don't say this too loud. We might have to match a higher bid!

Ben is a gun at getting the ball but will have to improve his kicking to be effective at AFL level.

The draft rewards the guys who need the least development. Which is fair enough - maybe he doesn't improve.

Charlie and Harry were both picked after Sam Weideman and Josh Schache. Let's not stress about draft order.

Doesn't mean he isn't a good player
2. Long Contract and borderline veteran
We have a number of players on long contracts and no where near veteran status

3. Squeezes salary Cap
All that matter is having enough room

4. Doesn't fix transition issues with 1 player. It is as much system
Every player of this ilk improves transition

5. He is a flanker, which are a dime a dozen, developed internally
No one rates Houston as dime a dozen, nor are any of our youth guaranteed to play at his level in the next couple of years

6. Save the big money for mids and key positions
We have an elite spine, and Houston has and can play through the middle

7. Carlton does not have a high strike rate on this stuff
Newman, Acres, Hewett, Kennedy, Docherty, Boyd and Elijah tracking nicely, all from other clubs

I understand he has very little very but something is better than nothing. Even factoring in goodwill building with the manager or other clubs it seems silly to give him away for nothing when value could’ve been extracted.

Martin might have been worth a pick 60ish. We have probably done the maths and realise we wouldn't even use the pick?

Either way we got Jack for nothing. He leaves for nothing. Fair enough.

I've got a bad feeling Austin is planning to hold onto Sam Durdin.

What a joke.

I think he has his eye on some replacements. If he can’t get any we may offer Durdin a one year deal on bugger all as cover

From a list point of view I understand it but I’m confident Austin will get someone else
