Have a feeling that Voss thinks that Houston, will be an amazing get for us. Knows him personally and has most likely been

conversing with him recently. Telling him that I will convince Austin, that you are worth it. Being a very close mate of JSOS

as well, be a bit surprised if he does not land with us. For better, or worse?

Houston won’t nominate a club that can’t satisfy Port.
The only way we can satisfy Port is to overpay.
Would/should we be happy with that … I doubt Austin will …
Very rare for a player not to nominate a preferred club, still expect that he will do so.
This type of situation happens every year most deals eventually get done, let's see what plays out.
Most deals get done with some form of compromise both sides.

If Houston nominates Carlton without the knowledge that we are prepared to meet Ports demands in trade, he better be prepared to be disappointed as was Papley and Gibbs the first time of asking.
Managers are very loath to take that route these days …

Totally agree about that feeling, but I will choose "worse" sadly.

That pick/those picks, can be used more prudently on, say, Leek Aleer if he became available, or another punt in this draft.

I'm betting he's holding off on nominations until he knows where he sits with us. I suspect he does want to come here but he needs to give Austin some time to see what he can do, otherwise he'd be mad not to take a 'godfather offer' elsewhere.
Vossy & JSOS would only buy so much good will.

Port won’t be trading their contracted dual AA for anything other than overs.
They simply don’t have too.
North are willing to accommodate this … I doubt Carlton are of the same mindset …
Port might need to get Houston’s salary off the books to accommodate those who are coming in…..

Might not quite get the overs they would prefer…..

I can't see North offering up a future 1st for Houston, without wanting Port's future 1st in return

That in itself could be a dangerous move for Port

This is going to be an interesting watch

Precisely, if North offer their future first Port would take it and run for the hills.
Can’t see it being anything but a top 5 pick

Houston is only coming back to Melbourne if Port are agreeable.
As Silvagni made young Reid pay overs for a contracted Gibbs, Port are well entitled to do the same for a contracted Houston.
North are reportedly willing to offer him more money and Port overs in trade.
Dan would understand that if he wants to return to Melbourne, barring Austin overpaying, he nominates North and pockets the cash …
SOS was happy for Gibbs to remain at the Blues if Adelaide didn’t cough up.

Are Port exactly of the same mindset with Houston? What are the overs North are offering and are they significant? The chance to play with Voss and finals might appeal to Houston, who knows?

All speculation at this stage.

Houston is on a contract negotiated before he became a dual AA.
Probably a major reason why he wants to return to Melbourne with a shiny new contract.
Port will be moving Soldo’s contract which probably wouldn’t be far removed from Houston’s existing “unders” contract.
Port will get overs as North are this morning reported to have their FF on the table.
Port holding a long term contract for Dan are well within their rights to tell him it’s North or you can remain at Alberton …

Port would be more than happy to keep their dual AA on his current “unders” contract.
Houston has stated that he is happy to remain at Port if a trade satisfactory to Port can’t be negotiated.
It’s reported this morning that North have their FF on the table.
What appeals to Houston doesn’t really matter, it’s what appeals to Port that will decide this …

So if its that easy"its North or you can remain at Alberton" why are Port furious at Carlton then?
Port would be saying screw you CFC and laugh in our face and say we'll just deal with North?
I think its pretty easy to read between the lines that Dan's preference is the Blues.

Agreed.
Likely his manager would not allow a Carlton nomination unless they have an understanding that the Blues will accommodate Port’s trade demands.
North can offer Dan the new improved contract he’d be seeking and Port the trade capital they’d be satisfied with …

Again,
Dan’s preference doesn’t matter … Port’s does though …

Port are apparently fuming at us:

Port Adelaide is refusing to deal with Carlton over Dan Houston, with the Power angry at what they perceive to be Blues arrogance in early negotiations.

In talks between the clubs fed through Houston’s management, Carlton has stated it intends to keep its pick 11 for this year’s draft while trading a future first round selection to a third club.

I'd say that Port would like a bidding war and that's not likely to happen if both clubs are offering the same.

Houston is likely to impact our ladder position significantly more than North's so I can see how, if offered F1's from both clubs, they'd want to push him toward North.
