More just as way for either of the clubs to sell it to the members. “Top 10 pick gun midfielder” struggling to get a game in Freos deep midfield.

never mind all the deficiencies just the top 10 sells 😂

Will Brodie was a top ten pick around the same age when we got him for peanuts.

Some say 1 mil, Vlahos 800k now it’s 600k???

And Pickett on 900k is a bit random too.

It’s Peter Vlahos btw. Bit of a dinosaur in the industry and probably has bad mail.
Bolton is on at least a 1 mill a year, per people who basically signed the contract. I'm pretty sure Pickett is on less than Bolton and think Vlahos is a bit of a turkey

I come in peace Dockers fans. A lot of us are comfortable with who is going out the door, not because they aren't quality (they all are), but the era is over and each player wanting to leave has understandable reasons. Bolton is a player that capitalises on opportunities, he is wasted in a side like ours right now and for the next few years. He's really the cherry on top type of player that in the right environment can get 3 goals and 20+ possessions with a lot of them creating opportunity.

It's not going to be us up the top for a few years but I hope you guys can put together the missing pieces to finally win a flag. When we got Nank, Prestia and Caddy, then later Lynch, those were the moves that took us to the next level and Lynch allowed us to capitalise on reaching that level.

I'm predicting a pretty generous deal where you guys give up a bit for Bolton but us taking on some salary since who the **** are we going to spend it on for the next few years anyway? We can even throw in Hopper for good measure.
i think pickett has made the deal more complicated. i suspect this is gonna turn into some level of 3 way trade.
so i expect this to drag on a bit. sorry. satisfying 2 clubs does that.

I reckon this is pretty straight forward.

They get either 9/10 + Port 1st/F1

Later picks/swaps to season as required.

Not suggesting it happens early, but all the key pieces are already there.

What would you expect to get for Erasmus? Pick 30-35? Helps a little bit but not a lot to get other deals done.
I assume he means as steak knives like Blake Acres. Either way I agree with your sentiment. We have a role for Erasmus - if he can have a big pre-season. We need to phase out Fyfe. But more size and muscle added to his body and Ras compliments the other boys well. Fyfe can stay but spend more games as sub and managed.

No point flicking off Erasmus for meaningless late 2nd or as steak knives.

i don't any club in modern afl is walking to the gallows. melbourne will add another million over the next decade or 2.

market growth will ensure clubs survive. also melbourne is a viable club if run well.
The AFL has saved them time after time. If not for the assistance they got from the AFL they would not have won the 21 flag.
They are still feeding off the AFL at seasons end.
Their crowds are way down. Seems there may have been a lot of snow on the peaks this winter.Corwd of 16,000, and then 17,000.
And according to todays papers, Petracca said he wanto to play in a BIG club, a club that attracts BIG crowd. even in Fremantles bad early days, a crowd of 17,000 was never on.
They are walking to the Gallows.

So Switta and Erasmus used as steak knives?

Would Erasmus have any interest?
Don’t get Erasmus involved. He would be on minimum rookie wage.
Why not just delist a bunch of players.
If getting Bolton Baker as minimum, surely look at pushing JOM, Brodie, Switta out?

yes key pieces are there. 4 firsts to play with. but the finer details will require haggling

I know we ended up getting a top ten pick for Schultz, but different circumstances we wanted him to stay and when the deal was done many expected that pick to be 16-18. If we look to off load Switta and other clubs value him as an early 2nd rounder I'd prefer to trade a future 2nd.

If we trade a F2 (without having any other 2nds), we are banned from trading our F1 (and vice versa).

The F1 will most likely be needed for Bolton + Pickett. I think all 4 firsts need to go out the window. And if not, then we would want the F1 to use on Warner.

There's also Switta's salary which would be reasonable and we need all the help we can get with our cap in order to fit in the big names.

Switta makes sense to me. Pickett is basically Switta that kicks goals. Sturt would have made sense before the contract news as well, but he'd be on a fair bit less than Switta I suspect.

That said, as big of a fan of Sturt as I am, Switta's pressure is probably more valuable than Sturts goals with those two coming in.

I'm only guessing, but maybe we're into Pickett because we know Warner isn't coming?

Not sure we have the picks to satisfy all 3 trades. If we get Pickett and Bolton for our 3 x first rounders and St Kilda's 2nd rounder most of us would take that but does pick 18 and a future first get the deal done for Warner next year?

Possible for sure. JammoMonty still sounds convinced he's coming home next year though.

100% There will be posturing and egos to work through.

Could we request Walters to retire. Give him a ‘coaching’ job on similar rate. That would fall outside player payments but Walters still looked after.

There’s just 0% chance Walters plays next year if we have those 2 and even if they’re both injured or suspended Walters isn’t someone we should turn to anymore.

He can't be watching this and be thinking "yeah, I'm playing lots of games for Freo next year". I'm sure he's considering his options.

We can take a couple of 2nds in this draft still

Pickett, 38 -> 10, F1, Murphy
Bolton, 29 -> 9, 14, 27
28, F2 -> Switta (Essendon)

Seems reasonable to me and gives us some nice picks this year and points next year

Seems good to me. I'd even do it without the 38 and 29 coming back (or later picks in the 40-60 range).

Hadn't thought of Switta to Essendon. Is that your own idea, or have there been rumours? Reckon that makes sense as they are not rebuilding and their small forwards suck. I doubt we'd get that haul though. Maybe one of those picks. Hard to pretend it isn't a salary dump.

Of course we will still want worner, but I don't feel we need him with Bolton and Pickett

Both can rotate through the midfield and both will cause front 50 chaos

Two in the hand is better than something something?

If collateral damage has us losing Raz, Switta or Brodie- so be it

If it has us retiring Walters or fyfe early, I'll be more conflicted as they both deserve a farewell game and should go out on their own decision, not because we need the list spot and cash
