We can take a couple of 2nds in this draft still

Pickett, 38 -> 10, F1, Murphy
Bolton, 29 -> 9, 14, 27
28, F2 -> Switta (Essendon)

Seems reasonable to me and gives us some nice picks this year and points next year

Seems good to me. I'd even do it without the 38 and 29 coming back (or later picks in the 40-60 range).

Hadn't thought of Switta to Essendon. Is that your own idea, or have there been rumours? Reckon that makes sense as they are not rebuilding and their small forwards suck. I doubt we'd get that haul though. Maybe one of those picks. Hard to pretend it isn't a salary dump.

Of course we will still want worner, but I don't feel we need him with Bolton and Pickett

Both can rotate through the midfield and both will cause front 50 chaos

Two in the hand is better than something something?

If collateral damage has us losing Raz, Switta or Brodie- so be it

If it has us retiring Walters or fyfe early, I'll be more conflicted as they both deserve a farewell game and should go out on their own decision, not because we need the list spot and cash

Switta makes sense to me. Pickett is basically Switta that kicks goals. Sturt would have made sense before the contract news as well, but he'd be on a fair bit less than Switta I suspect.

That said, as big of a fan of Sturt as I am, Switta's pressure is probably more valuable than Sturts goals with those two coming in.

I really think Frederick, Emmett and Switta are in trouble.

Only 1 of them makes the 23 next year.

Are any of them good enough to make starting midfield, or willing to be depth. I doubt they make the midfield.

Defence. Walker, cox, Chapman, Pearce, Ryan, Wagner, clark

Serong, Brayshaw, Young, Erasmus , Johnson, Sharp, JoM, O'Driscoll, and Darcy

Amiss, Bolton, Pickett, Treacy, Jackson, Sturt, Switta I think

I think the two firsts for each of them is pretty big. Those are more than fair / overs so I think its reasonable anything on top to be minor. Removing those 2nds coming back starts getting into crazy land.

Might be right on Switta value, I have nothing there but he makes sense for Essendon. I'd hope we push the line that we don't need to lose him, but we are open to it. Same as Suns and Lukocious

i wanna keep erasmus. still very young. will be a serviceable hard running dilligent midfielder. dominating peel at present.
Erasmus doesn't turn 21 until December this year. Despite missing games when he was selected by Fremantle I think he'll go close to winning the Sandover this year. I actually think his kicking and speed off the mark have both improved significantly this year. In my opinion we should keep him and in the not too distant future he'll be playing consistently at afl level.

I'd say Emmett is cooked and Freddy is in zero danger. Freddy plays a different role to either of those two and is not replaced by either.

Freddy would also be a better winger than JoM.

Clubs absolutely love blokes that are fast and can run.

I assume he means as steak knives like Blake Acres. Either way I agree with your sentiment. We have a role for Erasmus - if he can have a big pre-season. We need to phase out Fyfe. But more size and muscle added to his body and Ras compliments the other boys well. Fyfe can stay but spend more games as sub and managed.

No point flicking off Erasmus for meaningless late 2nd or as steak knives.
Ras is important. Should be kept and given real opportunity. Full games not just a sub here and there. No one can tell me he can't match JOM output right now and has a higher ceiling and potential to grow.

Peter Vlahos on sen with some Bolton and Pickett news.

Says Bolton is on 800k a year
Thinks Pickett is on 900k a year.

Says the stumbling block particularly for Pickett is the money. His mail is his contract $ is a big reason it might not go ahead.
I know for a fact that Bolton is on 1M per year. Pickett is way off. Much less than that.

Bolton has agreed to extend his contract by 2 years to smooth his money out. No sauce because I can't remember where I heard it or read it.

I wonder if we need trades/retirements to fit them both in the cap.

Even then, hard to understand how we could fit them in unless the Tigers pay a massive portion.

Bolton seems a certainty, Pickett far less so. Both without losing key players would be a A+ offseason, regardless of how the draft goes.

The whole Warner thing doesn’t seem to have legs in the media.

I'm going a midfielder short if those are our forwards tbh.

Frederick in, Erasmus out.

That does look a little too good tbh - good chance someone sees themselves as fringe and leaves.

Big list management issues
1. Fyfe, Walters and OMeara are past it and we need their leadership.
2. Cox, Pearce and Darcy seems to miss a lot of games.
3. Erasmus needs to get games or he will look elsewhere.
4. Aish, do we keep for depth?
5. If we get both Pickett and Bolton, who gets pushed?
6. Simpson does he have a chance to make best 22?

You need an inside mid bull. Erasmus stays.

Joao said Frederick in for JoM which I like. Either way, our top 26 players are elite.

I don’t think the penny has dropped at the Dees, they don’t yet realise this era is over - the fans may, but I doubt the club does.

I think they will hold Kossie to his contract, and Trac too.

I have Brayshaw, Serong, Young, NOD and Johnson as our inside mids next season tbh. NOD to go out the wing on occasions and Bolton and/or Switta to have stints through the middle.

It’s a bigger midfield than the one that beat us last week. As long as we have no mids that are a defensive liability and competent ruck I think that midfield can compete with just about anyone.

Possible for sure. JammoMonty still sounds convinced he's coming home next year though.

100% There will be posturing and egos to work through.
Bolton and Pickett in with Switta out still considerably strengthens the forward line...

Could something like 10, 27 & Switta for Bolton, and 9 and 17 for Pickett work?

Yeah it does, but forward pressure was a big issue so adding Kossie to Switta would really help.

Possibly, but I suspect both teams gun for the 2nd first.

I am confident if we get both of Pickett and Bolton that Switta will be traded or a part of the deal. It's good business and Switta's future there is definitely things happening behind the scenes regarding his future.
It's not a massive issue if he goes, but if the question is who would I rather in the team (especially forward) out of JoM and Switta, its Switta by plenty.
