He kicked 3 in this game one of which was from a strong contested mark.

You blokes try and talk yourselves out of good players.

I mean, he ain’t Wayne Carey but then who is?
This is disingenuous. It goes down as a contested mark because there was a Tigers player there, but watch the game. The defense isn't set because its a turnover and the Tigers player is running back towards Logan (standing 1m out of the square) and trying to make a contest without giving away a front on contact free. It's a higher difficulty than a joe the goose, but not by much. It's definitely not a "strong" contested mark.

It's also a strawman to say anybody expects Carey.

Heh, I was watching the Essendon game…my bad

I watched Logan playing in the Perth league team as a 17 year old. His pack marking was elite against men and a lovely kick for goal. Not watching Sydney too much but I would be very surprised if he is just a cheapie out the back forward. Rather, I would say he reads the ball better than most.

It could just be the way the Swans want to play but he definitely is scoring the vast majority of his goals by getting out the back.

Sure, but sometimes we can be right too. Not only that, but I now find myself regularly arguing against the very argument I used for not getting Jackson (that he's a ruck and we already have a good one).

McDonald gets out the back. That is literally the only thing I can see of any note on TV. So what I see is us about to pay $1m x 7 and 2 firsts for Josh Jenkins to play in a system where the KPFs don't get out the back.

I am willing to accept that the Swans and even our recruiters know that McDonald has great traits that aren't currently being displayed, but its hard to be fully confident of that given the number of bust top end KPFs.
It's all good, Get LM so we don't need to get the small fwd that gets the cheapies out the back. Done.

My younger brother played against him in juniors for years. Sometimes you watch a kid playing U13s and think they're gonna make the big time. He is the only kid that everyone KNEW would.

I think there is a bit more bust potential with McDonald and I was keen to get him to start the season. I still think he’s basically Tabs with a brain and touchwood, no injuries which is a good AFL player.

I suppose it really comes down to how much we pay and how much we want Dogga on ball because that has to be the plan given everything we know. I want Darcy back out there to see what midfield Jackson looks like

If Cox goes to WC? Who from Sydney would follow him?
Unfortunately you can add WC to the North Eastern clubs and the AFL are going to bail them out.
There already is a chorus of commentators that are expressing that view.
It’s going to get worse because they have become the worst side in AFL
history.
Pyke is already here, looks inevitable that they will get another handout.
Unfortunately this is going to influence our plans this and next year to
drafts and trades😡
Dean will be pressured, AFL endorsed to fix this mess.

Yeo, Chapman and Clark in the back 6 would help our offence a lot.

We can dream, not sure what is the bigger dream. Yeo, or a fit Chapman :)

Half this board were saying the same thing about Alex Pearce.

Let’s remember this is Chapman’s fourth year on an AFL list. We could still get 200 games out of him of things go well.

Tabs is a bloody good contested mark when he is up and going which Mc Donald isnt.

Maybe a Tabs/ Jack Anthony cross? (Anthony with 50 goals in 2009 with no single outstanding attribute to his game

Tabs was not a great mark at 21

How much better is Zurhaar than Banfield.
Is it worth the contract size required to get him here as a free agent?

I don’t see the value for money.
I do t see how it moves the needle.
We’re flush for picks and if we can’t get a serious upgrade in in the forward line or wing then we’re best off drafting.
I know Bell is in a new role at Freo but he put a line through Zurhaar. 🚩 Bell is a good judge of character.

Banners playing his role up front and down back. Very serviceable.

Well they need to forget about midfield and wing positions.
Train accordingly.

He’s 22 this year so getting another ten seasons from him isn’t overly unrealistic if he stays fit. We’ll give him every chance because he’s proven AFL quality and one of the top talents on our list.

There’s certainly room for him in the backline whilst we’re still playing Hughes there. Once he gets confident in himself he’ll attack the ball like Hughes, be like Ryan in the air and use the ball like Clark - he can genuinely be that good as a defender IMO. He’s not a KPD though despite what anyone says.

I think its the meekness in the contest worries me the most. He does take the odd decent grab, enough to think he could improve to a good level (ala Tabs).

Not sure I've ever seen a timid player become a physical one.

I still think he’s a jet who we’ll love having for 10+ seasons. He’s a very smart forward and barely gets beaten in a contest. He might not take as many contested marks as the star KPFs of the competition but that’ll come imo.

His numbers are very similar to Amiss this season even when you adjust it for McDonald’s extra game. But if I suggested Amiss was worth what we’d end up trading for McDonald this board would suggest it isn’t even in the ballpark.

I get the posters saying we have other needs etc. but McDonald is a gun - those saying he’s not that good won’t be looking too smart in 3-4 years time.

I've conceded that there may be stuff McDonald is capable of that we're not seeing, but I don't know how you could conclude what you have on the evidence given.

Getting out the back literally on requires that you be tall (so they actually put a defender on you) and a decent runner. That is not worth any sort of bounty.

I won't be changing my mind until new evidence is presented.

Lot of out the back in that.

But that's the way Sydney play rather than say the only way he can play.

Can clearly take a mark on a lead, read the drop pretty well, snap a goal and kick accurately from 50.

I think he has better goal sense than Treacy and his hands are a little safer. Treacy still suffers from those hard hands that if he could fix he'd be an outright gun. I say this as an unabashed Treacy fan.

I don't think LMac is meek though, what I recall from his wafl snippets he did well against blokes a lot older than him. Treacy is certainly more bash and crash though.

I still don't know if it is the right call if he does come though, I favour not if Treacy can push on. That said, I was clearly wrong about Jackson so back the club in.
