Jeez Treacy is coming along nicely - I might be changing my opinion to be that we need a Treacy backup rather than JT upgrade (Lmac).

We need a good small forward, and a quality user through the midfield - our delivery into F50 could be better.

Treacy, Amiss and Walters are the 3 players who can kick to a forward.

WTF do we offer Baker?

He has had the prems, so money is what he will be chasing, he should get more of it at Richmond and likely the captaincy, will a premiership chance be enticing enough? The money just isn't going to be there for him.

I am operation get him btw, just don't know how we convince him, what do we have on the table for him?

Maybe he just misses Perth. I mean that's literally the only thing we have to offer for any players we're chasing.

Perth is the carrot, and we offer more than 6 years of getting poled if he goes to Lathlain.

Baker for Sonny is an tasty prospect tbh…I’m warming to it

Baker is not a goalkicker, he's not a sonny replacement. A half cooked Walters has kicked almost as many goals in the last season and a bit as Baker has in his entire career.
He's an upgrade on our high half forwards (I suspect he'd be playing a fair bit thin side wing for us instead if he came) but not a solution to our lack of non key forwards with goal nous that can beat their opponents on the ground and / or for athleticism.

I'd also argue Sonny is not finished as yet. I think he has been close checked the last two weeks, after running riot against Adelaide, as our only real non key foward threat and by far the most damaging of our players taking it inside 50. (We're playing one too many pressure forwards for mine.)

Our defensive game is good enough to blunt the best attacks in the league, we just need a touch more polish ahead of the ball. Two or three players could be added to that forward line to seize their moments and we would be unbeaten so far.

We have the picks to buy players if we need to, I don't care if we trade all the first round picks if it means we field quality forwards and don't lose anyone else end of the season.

It does look like we are trying to harass the opposition more, aiming for marks and then breaking even with the spillages in hope for a shot at goal.

It's the right play if our talls are marking. We could really do with our midfielders finishing better.

Banfield will be ruing his missed opportunities. I can't help but daydream of a player like Rachelle or Rankine who kicks goals out of nowhere - but we really need two of them so the one who isn't tagged like Walters is able to get loose.

Sorry to bud in here but Baker has played most of his career as a backman / Mid
Specially during 2017-2021 years he was mostly playing defence mid and only really started going foward after Dimma left
Dont believe his past goal kicking would be a great comparison.

Yeah whatever. He has played at least two seasons, and this one so far on top, as a foward and kicked 25 goals. He's not going to magically transform into a 40 goal a year foward in his mid to late 20s.

He won't be a 40 goal fwd (and as you allude to by suggesting him as a high half fwd, you don't really want him to be a stay-at-some type), but I think in all fairness the point THE_GUN is making (accurately imo) is that his goalkicking record probably undersells what he is as a goalkicker. Even in those seasons where he has had runs of games more fwd, he plays many games in other roles. Like last year he had a run of games towards the end of the season where he scored 10 in his last 10, but he ended the season with as many R50s as I50s. That doesn't scream someone who's spending most of his time fwd.

To me, I see him (as you probably see him) as a better Switta when he plays in attacking roles, except with also more positional versatility. Could well be good for 30ish goals in a season, as he's currently going at 1.5 goals per game this season (small sample size), but probably won't crack that next level of goalscoring that we need someone to be.

Took us 5 games to start melting about no small forwards when Shultz left

We all knew it was coming

Emmett - raw and will take time, but his game sense is what frustrates me, gets caught a fair bit
Walters - outputs are now like a draftee - up and down - but the end is near and cliffs come quickly sometimes
Switta - terrible small forward kicking for goal. That's why he plays up the ground
Delean - unsighted

Sturt, banners, Freddy - medium forwards
