I am very surprised 10 of you said Baker over the names in the poll. Should have made names visible because I'd like to see how many were Tigers fans popping in for a looksie haha
I have baker ahead of LMD at the moment.
I don’t think either of the others are realistic. The price for Bolton or Warner would be eye watering - enough to set some long term posters off the rocker here. I’m talking all three first founders just for either of them, especially Warner.
Picks 11, 15 and 17 for Chad Warner isnt gonna get it done - when those picks are probably 15, 20 and 23 on actual draft night.

Rhino thinks we are in the hunt for Baker too.

Bolton would need to be half pushed, agree but I think you are overselling it on Warner. Same level player as Andy Brayshaw and we let a contracted prime Lachie Neale go. 11,15, 17 is more than enough because no one ever goes for that much and we'd know, we always lose contracted players.

Also, I'll almost guarantee we have at least one top 10 pick end of season

haha, how long have you being supporting fremantle?

Still naive, I am sure we can trade them all away for some magic beans. -

Would you say Chad Warner is worth more than Jesse Hogan was in 2018?
I’d say definitely.

We gave up 6 and 19 for hogan and I think we got 30 back.

I can see a scenario where our 3 first rounders are all in the teens, and so would be worth around the same as pick 6 and 19.

I expect ourselves and port to play finals, and the pies - who knows. They won’t be lower than 10th though. If we have a top 10 pick it will be 8 or 9 at best.

Look I’m a big fan of Warner but if anyone here thinks we are getting one of the hottest properties in AFL footy for the next decade, a premium mid, in contract, for anything other than a MASSIVE trade price, they will be disappointed. There’s a decent argument, a la Jackson that when such a player wants to come you get the deal done and worry later about the price. That what the big clubs all do.

I think that Baker could be gettable for pick 16 or 17.
Keep the other two picks and draft some quality small or medium forwards.
Better all round option?

Jesse Hogan was a contracted 23 year old KPF who had kicked 44, 41, 20 and 47 goals...

I dont think Warner is worth more than Hogan was at that stage. We forget what he was when we traded for him (off field issues or not).

Pies wont be lower than 10th? They just scraped over the line against Hawks, they could easily finish anywhere from like 14th upwards. They've even been lucky to have a pretty good injury run so far.

I think as soon one of our picks this year is top 10, a top 10 pick a first next year is as good a deal as Sydney could ever get. That's as much as any of these guys go for because there is a guaranteed top 10 pick in there (different to Jackson where the future 1st wasnt as valuable when traded). Then you take one first to the draft this year and one for Baker.

This is hopes and dreams stuff but I don’t think any of that is unreasonable

Warner
8 & F1 (if I'm still optimistic, use the Saints pick somehow, that's a mammoth trade)

Baker
16

Take a first to the draft

If this happens, start the f***ing car! Adding them to our list would propel it sky high!! And a first in the draft!!!

Just worried by who might be the outgoing as someone is guaranteed to be out the door. I'd say it's bye bye Brodie as at least one...

It’s the benefit of having three first round picks in a draft, absurd buying power if you have the capspace to go with it. Freo has probably never been better positioned list wise and I put together an incredible list. It’s kind of being slept on a bit

Aye, the amount of wiggle room we have is crazy. Don't want to tempt fate here either, but one Lachlan Schultz has only kicked 5 goals from Collingwood's 5 games to date. I wonder how their fans feel about that trade right now?!

If we brought in Baker and Warner, Brodie would definitely be collateral damage, he can’t get a game now.

Because I put a good 30 minutes of research into this and want more credit I'm bringing over my post from the Baker thread on the DTFA. I've dived deeper into why it would be INCREDIBLY unlikely for WC to get Baker.

Here is the names of players traded in by rebuilding teams (Gold Coast, West Coast, Freo, Adelaide, Hawks, North) since 2018 that were over 24 and cost more than a top 30 pick in value. Jess Hogan, Rory Lobb, Tim Kelly, Jaspar Pittard, Jared Polec and Dylan Shiel.

Now, there would be some debate on when these players were brought into their clubs that the club wasnt rebuilding, but that only strengthens my case.

should we delete the poll to start it again for that purpose

It looks like a good year to have a lot of trade options. Not just Sydney but also the Bulldogs will have issues retaining players. Interestingly one of those two teams might need a salary dump trade and we would appear to have a lot of salary space. With Sam Darcy looking like an absolute gun Rory Lobb isnt even playing for the Bulldogs that's a very significant salary for a player not playing afl. I wouldn't rule out a salary dump trade with the Bulldogs just like we did with Gold Coast in the Will Brodie trade or just like the Jack Bowes trade for Geelong.

The real problem with an attempt at Warner is (unless footywire is mistaken), when Warner goes OOC in 2025 he will be a non-free agent, not a RFA. If he was a RFA, maybe Sydney would have an incentive to trade him as a pre-agent. But without that, it's hard to see why Sydney wouldn't just wait until he's OOC to trade him if it came to that.

Yeah, would help if they were after someone themselves. We seem to trade players in contract (Schultz, Lobb etc etc) though so I assume if he asks for a trade, it would be possible

Why would we trade Brodie out. He's contracted for another 2 years after this year. What would we get for him?
Perfect depth.
could be clearing salary cap space, depending on what it looks like if we made a play for Warner or Baker or possible others (??). I think they'd be a few more casualties too, but all just mere speculations right now.
