Depth?? Don't we desperately need players who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and kick an inspirational goal when it matters? Or class that can reliably kick a goal when the team has done all the hard work?
Well you’d hope we could draft 2-3 players like that in first 20 picks this year!

I would look at Shannon Neale from Geelong, athletic 203cm Key Position forward who can also Ruck. He can't get a regular gig at Geelong because of their plethora of KP forward stocks. This kid can play and if he was on our list now he would be getting a game. At the moment we have no options up forward when we bomb it in long.
Can also kick it 60 meters with ease.

I don’t really have a place here sorry but I’m running out of hope so have a question for the draft experts

Is there a world where we could possibly end up with both McDonald and Baker ?
Or Warner for Baker

Like a realistic world ?
My ladder predictions

We end up 7-10 th
Collingwood end up 4-8th
Port end up 5-9th
Saints end up 8-14th

Question: do we need to use a first this year under the AFLs rules of 2 every 4 years I believe?
Or can we use them all this year on trades?

And we still didn’t win anything.
Lack of trades is probably why that side didn't win a premiership tbh. Good lists are built through the draft but always have quite a few players traded in.

From 2010-2012 we got very little from the draft anyway. In 2011 we didn't get the Mitch Clark trade done. Now he spent most of the rest of his career injured but if we had him at his best in the 2013 instead of Zac Clarke we probably aren't waiting on our first flag.

Fremantle used a first round pick:
2021 - x2
2022 - No first (Jackson)
2023 - No first (Jackson)
2024 - Can trade all three firsts and a future first
2025 - Can no longer trade a first round pick until we use two firsts at the draft

Wouldn't we get an exception for the Jackson trade as he's a 1st round talent and young? Probably to count as a single first rounder being used.

I guess I’ll take that as a no

I think it's possible and I don't know why no else answered your question, or took on a take for it (??). Everyone is hurting, smarting; just down in the dumps after that catastrophe Sat night, sometimes tempers flare too....it's a lowly feeling being a Dockers fan sometimes.

Obviously the season is far from done, but I think last year was a mistake not to at least try and trade in someone/s. I don't even remember who we were linked to, if anyone? I think after this year we have to try and use those picks to trade in, as continuously drafting means more young players that will need 3-4 yearly spans to get up to speed. That's okay if you're fresh off a Premiership or 2, but we already have a logjam of recently drafted guys trying to get into the first team at peel - Delean, Simpson, Reid; Voss, Davies, Worner (albeit a few drafts earlier) etc. I think 1 of those picks at the draft is fine, but I'd definitely use more picks to try and get a combo happening - Warner/Baker, McDonald/Baker; Lukosius/Baker (you get the drift). I think it's doable, but I have no idea what's on the cards

McDonald came out the other day and said he wants the swans group to stay together, everything pointing towards him staying
Thank you both for responding

Yeh I’m pretty down in the dumps but I’m not giving up yet
We are definitely trending in the right direction for once in a long while and as supporters we can’t throw in the towel just yet

But honestly I reckon this is the last roll of the dice with the list we have to get some quality up forward. It’s glaringly bloody obvious which is a good thing because we aren’t trying to fix multiple parts .

As much as I know it’s probably very unlikely I guess I just wanted to know if it was mathematically possible when considering picks , salary , future salary etc . Etc
Stuff that people on here seem to know

I don’t want another maybe like Corbett or has been like Tarrant types either , I want quality and wondering if we might have the currency ( and balls ) to pull something like this off.

You're welcome mate. I doubt we'll add list fillers or cloggers like a Corbett after 2024, I mean as nice a guy as he is and good for culture etc...

Got to think the salary cap is increasing and I think we're okay in that department anyway. Not sure if Walters and possibly Fyfe now outside the cap on veterans wages?!?! Can front load/back load, I guess it boils down to targets and who wants to come, or who decides to come and who they are and what we have to get the deals over the line etc. I think Baker is the most likely/realistic at this stage, but far from set in stone and then there's always gossip and murmurings when fans are idle/bored, having a bit of fun or just trolls trying to put the cat amongst the pigeons.

Freo's admin department has made some bold proclamations so if this year goes bust quickly, they'll have no choice. J-Lo's 5th year, the team despite being young has played together a few seasons etc - so excuses are wearing thin, can't be 'rebuilding' forever, they'd be wanting to put some bums on seats and renewing memberships and garnering new ones, cos right now that's being tested.

Massive game this weekend, ANZAC, usually one of my fav rounds. They disgraced themselves last year with the Lobb debacle, I hope they're focused on playing brutal but blistering football because that's what gets it done if they're to do it.

It’s absolutely possible to get baker and Warner this offseason but would definitely require all three first round picks to be used.
We would still have no genuine small forward to replace Sonny.
I think a player of substantial value would need to be traded out in this scenario. Someone like Erasmus or Johnson. Or maybe even Darcy if the combo with LJ doesnt work better than last weekend….

Warner is a pipe dream. He’s contracted until end of next year, they won’t trade him this year

I would take a goal kicking midfielder and a guy who can kick the ball to a leading forward and not even think twice about needing a small forward…combination of both gets us a least a couple of goals a game and everything going forward gets easier.

Can then use whatever picks we have left on small forwards

To get any of these retuning WA players we need to finish above WC on the ladder, for all the doom and gloomers on this board, WC are not the rabble they have been the last two years and will win plenty more games this year.

And it has to be this year…we have the currency and despite the weekend they still have a long way to go

Freo should be the last supporters saying a 1 year contracted player isn’t getting traded. Neale, Schultz, Weller, Lobb, Hill…
Interesting thought, I wonder if now is the right time to do it? We are desperate for forward talent but maybe if we can lure someone like Collard home we could make it work?
