That's fair, if this is the year Sydney could get an A grade replacement it could be sold that way.

Smith - I don't think he's good enough personally, but maybe Sydney see the potential
Oliver - that could work overall but how's the fit with their midfield?

How about.. the Bont!
Although to be honest Heeney is close enough to a 95% version now.
Still think Zurhaar may be in play.

Contract won't be big enough for band 1 compo, so North would match and force a trade.

I thought he still had 3 or 4 years to go when that request happened?

It's 2019, Papley was contracted until end of 2021 but a trigger had bumped that out to 2023.

He then extended to 2028 with a year to go on that deal.

Zurhaar is the one, the moment we hear its strongly the Swans then boy oh boy are we in

Think it hinges on this.

Who can we sell to the Swans? (from other clubs)

Smith, Oliver, Bolton? Isn't there a defender at the giants they can grab, or is he a free agent?

Sydney have always chased a big name forward for marketing purposes as much as for on field requirements. Would be absolutely hilarious if they prised Oscar Allen loose!
I for one would be more than happy to hand over our draft picks to the mob up the road to help facilitate a Warner to Freo/ Oscar to Swans type deal.

Yeah I’m still not convinced tho.
Think it’d be more a case for the swans of loading up for next year* and then trading the chad end of contract so as to even out their salary cap going fwd

I also doubt their “big fish” is another midfielder.
Think it’s either a key fwd or kpd , with a favouring towards the latter now Lmacs signing on

* especially if there’s any truth to the rumour that Warner’s current years contract comparative to his output is actually quite low

I firmly believe that these things are happening long before the media starts talking about it, but the media treats them finding out as being when the discussions began.

If Switkowski was being targeted by Sydney to play as a mid forward for them after Wicks leaves then the play for Freo is to start looking at Sydney players who are of interest.

The media has been talking about Warner and let's fast forward to October, let's pretend Switkowski under contract ends up requesting a trade to Sydney - the media will speak of it like Sydney targeted Switta as a result of us chasing Warner when it could be the other way around.

Let's look at a real world example. Adam Cerra was chased by Melbourne. He toured and had meetings, everything was going along well - then Freo said they are happy to do this but they will attempt to bring Luke Jackson into the deal - so Melbourne walked away.

Thank you for doing that Melbourne, that pick that became Amiss was very handy.

Zurhaar is the most like for like for Warner, particularly up front, and he'd likely cost money. At that point, if the Swans win a flag, The Chad asks for a trade, Zurhaar is available but likely only if Warner leaves (to have money for it) and they refuse to trade him then they are just being stupid.

Zurhaar has not been contacted by the swans if Beatson is to be believed.

Of course he hasn’t.

They would have had discussions with his manager.

Not saying there is anything there, but those statements mid season will always be what list managers defer to.

Also. Hi!

No. Beatson is very honest about this type of things. He got shitty managers & news were using us for clicks so when he says we haven't contacted re: Zurhaar you can believe it.

Kinnear has also said we want to shore up our defensive stocks - so IMO you're all looking at the wrong end of the ground.

Nah, with Beatson would have doen something along the lines of "he's an exceptional player that would be an asset on any list" lone if there was something to it. Usually a no is a firm no. Could be wrong but doubt it.

Hey Drago!

We gave you Hamling, what else do you want??

Zurhaar was flagged by Bell when he was list manager. Unless something has changed…going off Walls comments he won’t land at Freo 🚩
Was meaning to Swans.

But Beatson says no, so.....

There is not 0 incentive to trade Warner to Freo this year. There is a material chance West coast finish last next year. That will put a pre season draft discount on whatever the Warner to trade to them from Sydney is worth. Even bottom two or three the threat exists.

An out of contract Warner going to us or a lower mid table WC in 2025 is two first rounders one low. West Coast bottom 2 it's just the 1 first rounder for them, and what's to stop them downtrading it a bit first etc..

All that said them holding him to his contract is the more likely scenario.

Do we have any interest at all in Curtin?
We already have Draper and Davies as back up defenders of similar size.
Some of us think that Draper may eventually be capable in other positions.
Does this apply to Curtin?

He has denied wanting to leave Adelaide at this point.
