"But - exemptions are allowed if a recruiting target is of a certain age and experience, as determined by the AFL.
This would mean that someone like Kozzy, only 23 years old, may be seen as the equivalent of using a first round pick.
It would also mean trading in Luke Jackson two years ago would potentially count as using a 1st.
The 2-in-4 rule was essentially brought in to protect clubs from themselves - sending out high picks for older talent, leaving themselves in a future hole. Trading for high end young talent isn’t that.
This is all to say Fremantle might not run out of first round picks to trade, particularly with extended future pick trading coming in next year."
It's possible we manage to swindle our way into all three, I don't mind Baker but if it's at the expense of Pickett and Bolton then he can go to West Coast instead. The most interesting thing, is both Serong and Daniels have included Baker in all this.
Agreed. It's possible we manage to swindle our way into all three, I don't mind Baker but if it's at the expense of Pickett and Bolton then he can go to West Coast instead.
Absolutely, if we can somehow bring all three of them in then we can confidently say it's been a hugely successful trade period, would be massive upgrades to our Best 23.Agreed.
Posted in the Baker thread as bit of an alternate theory on Baker not nominating.
He may be 4th in line of priorities, and happy to go to West Coast if we pass on him. But just waiting to see what happens.
If we trade a F1 and Richmond pick up some salary, maybe we can get all three. We then have to trade someone & lose some depth to add Warner the following year. It's possible we manage to swindle our way into all three, I don't mind Baker but if it's at the expense of Pickett and Bolton then he can go to West Coast instead.
If Warner is a possibility next year then we can afford to lose some depth, adding those 3 this year and being ble to add Warner next year is a chance you have to take.If we trade a F1 and Richmond pick up some salary, maybe we can get all three. David Walls be like:It just seems like insanity. How can we possibly get all three...
We have the Capital, 4 x 1st rounders and pick 27. If none had contracts the 3 first rounders would get it done.It just seems like insanity. How can we possibly get all three...
Hopefully pick 23 but the first round has been extended by other clubsGot a feeling Jackson would count but Pickett wouldn't tbh. They were drafted in the same draft but Jackson was traded two years ago
Either way it's quite possible we're fine.
Then hopefully one of the NGA boys goes pick 17 or 18 next year. Technically a first rounder but for the price of some later picks.
Our problem is the bottom 3 would change week on week this yearWho are our bottom 3 in the Best 23? Will go to show who exactly each will replace.
Bolton replaces Banfield
Pickett replaces Walters
Who does Baker replace? Wagner?
They really need to change the rule up a bit. Maybe if you have a young player get a Rising star nomination, they count as the equivalent of a 1st round pick. It shouldn't matter what their pick was, as long as you keep getting enough talent through the door to not turn into WC.Got a feeling Jackson would count but Pickett wouldn't tbh. The AFL should just leave it up to the clubs, there shouldn't be any restrictions on how many picks you need to use etc. They really need to change the rule up a bit. 100%It's possible we manage to swindle our way into all three, I don't mind Baker but if it's at the expense of Pickett and Bolton then he can go to West Coast instead.
I think you are right, would be nothing better than getting in Pickett and Bolton, but, more likely we will end up with just Bolton or as planned Bolton and Baker. Surely, Melbourne is going to go all out to stop the bleeding from their team (unlike Richmond who appear to be on the rebuild) and will simply say no to Pickett, they just can’t afford to lose him.I feel like we are all setting ourselves up for big time disappointment if Pickett isn't in purple next year. Get it done!
